I assume this is already a point of law.....
I "assume" that it'd be the case that you mail it.....if no reply then send the police to the door to 172 them in person and if its outwith the 14days then that is accepted as mailing it was a reasonable attempt in the 1st case.....I'm probably wrong though.....a lawyer will probably correct me in a mo!

So why do you think the original question was asked tut?

Edit - no idea why it changed....I'm assuming a stated case allowed them to.

Personally, I think £60 and 3 points for speeding in a 70 is unnecessary, I was hardly thrashing the car. i think anyone who similarly felt harshly done by, would look for a way out.
However, I would throw the book at anyone speeding in a built up area or near schools etc.
2 entirely different scenarios with the same result.

I have a friend who borrowed his mums car recently and she called him today to she got a NIP on her car for 36 in a 30 by a scamera van.
It was at the entrance to a small town on the A68, he normally gets off the gas from 60 and drifts down to 30 way before the town actually starts, of course the scamera van was before the town. Gutted for him.

I think he was looking for a way to get out of it and hence asked the question, but what the hell has that got to do with him being accused of whinging and whining, that is not what we are about on here.

If I had sent that post then you could rightly tell me to accept it, but you sure as hell would not accuse me of something that was plucked out of the ether.

Tut,
I probably would have said very similar stuff if you's posted that tbh.

The whining was a poor choice in relation to this thread (aimed mainly at the numerous caught speeding posts on SE).....the rest of the stuff I was happy with......and still am. (I don't post anything on here that I wouldn't say to a persons face...)

Tut,
It's cool.
It's an emotive subject. Yes, I would like there to be a way out of something I feel is a bit harsh, but hey ho, it's not going to happen.

I was accused of whining and moaning when I hadn't, but it's not a problem. I think the thread has just stimulated a charged debate, and some maybe lost sight of the original post.

I appreciate you sticking up for me, but I don't think anyone is looking to give anyone else a hard time.
Healthy debate is good.

Cheers
Looth

Great, feel like a rant against Scam Vans.

We were on an S_E road run last year, typical route, Glenshee then over the Lecht. Half way between there and Tomintoul, came around a corner and there was a Van on the other side of the road. I know that they are not manned by police officers, but most don't. eff all schools, eff all houses, eff all pedestrians, eff all traffic, daylight on a dry road. At least we all managed to give them the V sign.

Quite happy for anyone to come to their defence, all they did was piss off drivers more than they normally do. They are there for one reason, revenue collectors, and almost always set up the same way, ping you as you come around a left hand corner whilst they are parked part way down the straight. Nothing to do with safety or putting them at a danger point, just where they can get the most hits.

This has nothing to do with exceeding the speed limit, we all accept that if we do then we are likely to get caught and most of us are thankful if it is at a reasonable speed and not what we may have done at other times. I have had many conversations with patrol car officers, all of them amicable, half booked me, half said go easy, but at least I could talk to them unlike the bloody robots that are taking over from them. Also most said that they would not take action between 80 and 85 on a 70, but would above that.

Some sense there with scamera vans.....motorists are easy targets....
My biggest gripe is that you have to wait to find out if you have been caught...

Albeit if you are driving within the speed limit you have nowt to worry about...haha...kidding with that last one.....humour...har har?

That was my point Campbell, its one thing to say you were caught so pay up, quite another to slang him for something that he had not said.

Appreciate that we have had whining in the past, but we can not lump him in with that. Interested to see your opinion of mine on Scam Vans.

Yeah, I explained to the OP via PM where whining came from.

Everything up here is driven by stats......the focus of what the police are meant to do is wrong. IMHO.
Things that cannot be measured are forgotten and their value is lost, it'll get worse soon too.

I blame loopholes! lol

Twat...........

<BG>

Quite happy that I heard nothing of mine at Dundee, thought that was a cert, but again, parked on a short section of dual carriageway between traffic lights. No way that you would ever get a patrol car sitting there.

No leeway with Vans, 10% +2 is the norm, more on Motorways, go 1mph more and tis off to the gallows.
