80mph on M9

Post by _ali » Sat Jul 02, 2011 1:09 pm

Just received a notice of intended prosecution for driving at 80mph last Tuesday on the M9. Lovely summers evening, not much traffic on the road...

FP as in fixed penalty? I'm sure that's what it'll be - I don't think they tell you that until you confirm the driver.

I imagine it will be a NIP and a 172 requirement.

Presume that it was a scam van or gatso as it came through the post. A radar patrol car would not normally bother at 80 unless he was bored, but normal for the two others is 10% plus 2, ie 79, although the vans are normally set higher for motorways.

Problem is just 1mph above their setting and that is it.

Harsh! Although wouldn't that mean your speedo was reading higher still? As in almost 90?

Possibly, but I have to say, not all cars are so inaccurate these days.

Elise is pretty accurate, average saloon car is 3-4 over.

The scam vans sit on the bridges on the M9. - I got done by one of them a few years ago
80 is the minimum you can get done by them
.
rumor has it you get off with the first 10%
so, for them to do you with 78 or 79 is harsh, so they set it for 80.

I set my cruise control for 80 on the speedo - which is really about 78 ish....

The enforced speed limit is 77 (assuming you have a super accurate speedo/GPS type thing) and then the penalty is the same whether you do 78 or 95 (I think that's correct). So you may as well drive at an accurate 94 until you have some points, then drive at an accurate 77. 70 doesn't appear to be a relevant number.

Cheers,
Robin

The 95 -100 band is not is not universal among the different County police forces, but most seem to stick to it.

It seems rather different sometimes down here - at 11pm on the M3 north from the south coast last night (city boys returning from their yachts and south coast pads) EVERYONE in the outside lane was over 90....passed two cop cars on the inside and everyone made do with a mere brush of the brakes.....it seems that as long as it's moving at certain times they don't care much!
