Sad viewpoint Tut, thats someones child

I used to be a fan. Stood one year at T in the Park for an hour and she never showed up.
Next year she came on stage and dribbled all over herself.

There really should be a way the NHS can intervene with these people to save them from themselves.
There are millions being plunged into care for alchoholics, smokers and food addicts but nothing for drug addicts.

There was for a while but Aids isn't as fashionable any more

That is what Verian just said to me. Does not wash, if she is someones child then maybe they should have done more to sort her out.

She is a world wide pop star, followed by millions, in my mind supposed to be responsible for her actions, and an example to her devotees.

Instead she was a druggy, alcoholic, every attempt had been made to help her out, it made no difference. If she had not have been a tabloid figure, her death would not have even been reported. She wallowed in the fame, could not handle it, made such a mess of her life that she ended it. That is her prerogative, but no way will I sympathise with her.

Really disappointed to see this, granted she was a waste of space junkie but she was brilliant with incredible raw talent and I loved her sh*t attitude.
Hairdresser at heart.

Can anyone say they are really surprised?

I find the public outpourings of grief for winehouse rather disturbing. 85 kids killed in Norway but the focus will be on one dead junky.

Here's hoping it never happens to any of our children (either being shot by a terrorist or becoming drug addicts).

You might like to think you could get all tough with them and make them stop taking drugs, but you would be wrong. Even if you lock them up for a year with no heroin and you and they and everyone else thinks they are clear, there is still a huge probability that they will return to drugs. The reality is that the only hope for addicts comes from within - if they can persuade themselves that there is something better in life and they have the will power to resist then _maybe_ they can get and stay clean.

Tut, if a drug addict becomes successful are they then supposed to stop being a drug addict because they are successful? Do you really think that's how it works?

As for comparisons between deaths, it is pointless. Why should we grieve more for 85 Norwegians that we did not know than for a personality we were at least aware of. If 85 kids dying in one day worries you simply as a statistic, don't go look at East Africa any time soon. 85 a minute is nothing - they're running at 0.1% of the population per day (that's 1/3 of the population in one year) in some areas. I'm not saying you should care, BTW, just that if it's numbers that are important, that's where you'll find the biggest ones. You are at the mercy of what the media thinks you should be interested in and right now that's Amy Winehouse's death.

Cheers,
Robin

No Robin, the point that I am putting across is that I just do not care. As you have just pointed out, there are millions of kids dying across the world from starvation, some nutter just shot down 84 kids and blew up several more in Oslo, and a bit part celebrity just ended her miserable life that she was responsible for.

None of the others were responsible for what happened to them, so I just do not have any feelings for her demise.

I fully concur with robin's post.

After all, the only harm winehouse did to others (family and friends excepted) was be a bad role model to impressionable fans...

Maybe I am old fashioned.

Role models by definition is what they should be.

Samuel Taylor Coleridge was a drug addict - does that mean that Kubla Khan or The Rime of the Ancient Mariner are not epic poems? Is the loss of someone talented still not tragic, regardless if they are flawed people and have a part in their demise? Are our own lives so perfect that we don't smoke, drink and we always exercise and eat healthily so that we can all say that we are above reproach? Amy was an accomplished and hugely inventive songwriter and, when on form, an astonishing singer. I for one, think it's sad.

It maybe sad, but only because she is a celebrity and that you have read about it.

It happens every day but does not make the news.

The 27 Club aquires another member.

Not really a surprise. IIRC her parents made every effort possible to help her but there is only so much you can do.
