What's your favourite Scottish road?
Re: What's your favourite Scottish road?
For me it's the Dukes Pass, this was the road that I had my first go in lotus. Being so close to home it's great for a quick blast in the morning stopping at Aberfoyle for a pie from the butchers on the way home.

Re: What's your favourite Scottish road?
Since I hadn't been up for a couple of years, I took the Elise along the Duke's Pass the other weekend. While most of the Pass itself was OK, and the Elise handled it beautifully, I approached it from the A84 side – and the road between Kilmahog and the turnoff for Loch Katrine is absolutely bloody awful! So many ruts and potholes that it's impossible to avoid them all
I take it you guys avoid that section then? Have to say that it spoiled the trip for me... after crashing along there I arrived at the bottom of the pass just the right side of a red mist... not ideal...
And the section coming down into Aberfoyle is fairly shabby too... and can you even get to Aberfoyle from the Glasgow side without travelling some hellish stretch of ex-tarmac?
One to avoid IMO...

I don't know it's name or where it is exactly other than it's up north it was open single track road narrow with good visability.
Kerry - it was the road I almost parked my car in the boot of yours

However, the surface was buggered when I lived in Scotland so God knows what it's like now. I used to blow away the cobwebs doing this route then east onto the A70 and back through Lanark then down the Clyde Valley.

For smiles per miles there are two roads that I put at the top of my list :
1) The Coylumbridge-Cairngorm Car Park road. All the altitude and bends you need, plus the incentive of keeping the car on song. Only 6 miles, but fun.
2) The link road that runs from the Lecht-Grantown road to Nethybridge - twisty tarmac laid across the heather moorland, before ducking into some trees with two yumps.

Well that narrows it down, 2 years ago and all a distant blur now. Could have been Torridon- ish but more likely Lochinver - Lairg or if we went over the Kylesque bridge then maybe the next right heading down to Lairg.
I have too many favourites, but Home to Grantown via the lecht, onto Spean via Laggan, out towards Skye, Turn North for Loch Carron onto Ullapool via Gairloch, Lochinver, Tongue, Lairg and home via the Lecht would do nicely. A great weekend. What a great privilage to have access to such roads and countryside.
If I had to pick then the first few miles between the Lochinver road and Kylesque bridge (sp?) always bring a big smile.

A few days in Torridon just complete - my annual pilgrimage, and the first time I've been in the highlands since moving down to the Shire....I reckon the whole stretch from Gairloch - Kinclochewe - Achnasheen and on to Garve is still my favourite. Even in a rented Golf.

A939 Easter Balmoral to Grantown on Spey was one of the most memorable blasts of my life in the Exige ... looking forward to a repeat in the coming years
Re: What's your favourite Scottish road?
Anyway we could do a google maps or google earth link for the routes? then save it under meets or something? Loads of times I've had a day off and been thinking of routes but ending up staying local.
One of my own has to be up beside Killin, probably because I've only ever had sunshine when I've been up that way.

Hi Hazel, how the devil are you? Long time no see.
Do you still have your 111S?

Re: What's your favourite Scottish road?
The 111S was run into and written off by my ex on the way to the F&C shop (no, not ON a F&C run
)
To be fair, it wasn't his fault, a young lad pulled out of a side road at speed & without looking.
So I bought a scandalous 160 and had that for a while, but it wasn't really getting used on these busy southern roads, so I'm now Lotus-less and make do with a S4 V8 Audi Cabrio (brum brum, GET OUT OF MY WAY YOU PEASANTS!
)
Although I did notice the 160 is up for sale again - so I'm very tempted!
