I seem to have an unrepairable problem with my engine ECU. (despite sending it to the ECU Doctor to be told it was fine)
Been doing a bit of internet searching and phoning around this morning without much luck, does anyone know where I might find
a used ECU for an S2 Elise 111s (2003), it's the Lotus only unit, part no A117M0109F.
Has anyone upgraded to an Emerald ECU or similar and have the standard unit they'd consider selling?
Any suggestions most welcome
Rob
Looking for an ECU

Have a quick read through this thread: http://www.scottishelises.com/phpbb/vie ... =5&t=32139
See if Stewart's experience can help - believe he got his repaired. Worth asking what's led you to feel its faulty and unrepairable?

Thanks for the reply, my story is almost identical to Stewarts, as in, I too reversed the polarity while changing the battery for a split second.
Difference was that the car would hardly run at all. After a lot of diagnostics with a friend, came to the conclusion that it was the ECU. Sent the unit to the ECU Doctor for repair, who sent it back saying there was nothing wrong with it. I put it back on the car and it ran as smooth as before the problem, however was still getting a fault code for the VVC solenioid valves and it was limited to 5500 rpm.
Took it to Ricky Gauld for it's regular MOT and service and for him to clear the codes (I thought the ECU Doctor had basically rebooted the ECU and that's why all my troubles had gone). Ricky couldn't clear the fault codes, so changed the 2 VVC solenoids and still couldn't clear the faults, although the car still runs very sweetly (but still limited to 5500rpm). after reading a Lotus Bulletin on the subject, the next step was to look at the ECU.
I sent the unit to E and S Alternators in Glasgow (on the advice of Ali Mcleary) and they told me yesterday there is a short in the unit and they cannot repair it.

Re: Looking for an ECU
Rob, really sorry to hear about your problem. Mine was repaired by Autotek (I think - on my phone just now). Cost £244 and was back in a week.
If you haven't done so already, run through Robin's pdf checklist in my thread. It was relatively simple to do if you can use a multi meter or know someone who can. Where about are you? There may be someone local who can assist with the checks.
My understanding is that even if you replace the vvc solenoids, they will simply blow if the ecu is damaged. This could however be Internet myth.
Please let us know how you get on as there appears to be a bit of misinformation out there on the www.

Re: Looking for an ECU
I have an alternate approach involving the use of an EU3 MEMS3 ECU that has been modified to work in the Elise.
If you're interested let me know and I'll put you in touch with the guy that does this.
He can remap the ECU to give you some extra beans too, though you may not want that.
Cheers,
Robin

That could be a good alternative, Ricky Gauld had a similar idea, in upgrading to an emerald ECU and at least getting some more peformance out of the car, basically making the best out of a bit of bad luck.
I'm just about to go offshore at the moment so will get back to you in a day or so, if I don't find any other alternatives.
Stewart, thanks for getting back I'll keep you up to date on my progress
