Larkhall karing report(NLC)

Post by Stu160 » Sun Sep 03, 2006 10:59 pm

Hi All

Report of our weekends karting

I have decided to stop racing for the rest of the year ,as Anne Marie and Steven are both racing now,and its just to much for me to do on my own,and anyway ,they are better than me ,so deserve the attention.

Anne Marie has never done Larkhall before, and had a hard wekend infront of her,as it was wet all weekend, and Larkhall it VERY hard in the wet, tight track, not much runoff, high kerbs, armco, you get the picture.

Anyway, she is very smooth,so had a good day, last in every race bar one ,but still very good for her first day there,as all the others have lots of laps there, even more than Steven has ,so no shame. It was wet all day,and she only had 2 spins, and was never lapped, which is a lot better than she is giving herself credit for.She said she hated it,but I think she did not like being last ;-)

Steven had a good day as well, first time out in new kart.It took me 4 hours to get it through scrutineering on sat.just a lot of things to get sorted out on it,but we got there in the end,but he was not quick in practice ,so had asked a few questions to those in the know about the setup, and changed the kart for today. What a difference, first heat he started last(12th) and made it up to 9th and got stuck, but he was quick(5th fastest),and the kart looked great.Next heat was ok,started 7th and finished 6th,again he looked ( 3rd quickest lap this time)but couldnt get passed and use it.Last heat ,and the track was drying quick,so changed to well worn wets, hoping he could pull off a great result in the same conditions as last week at Golpie ,when he set the fastest lap.He was on pole, and got a great start, but ended up 4th by the end.He was not using the best line on the track ,lack of laps there I think,so he could have been better, but still a good result.

He started 6 th in the final, and was up th 5th after the 2nd lap ,and was stuck again for 5 laps ,and didnt look as if he was going to move up any more, then he just caught and passed th guy ,when I asked him about it after the race,he said he was "Playing with him " ;-) Class .

So he finished 4th,best result to date, well chuffed. I had more fun today looking after them ,than I did when I was racing,it was great ,and my heart was pounding more as well. What a fantastic day.

Another highlight of the day was the 3rd heat of Rotax max.Stefan Di Rista started at the back of the grid ,and came through to take the wil in the wet, awsome driving, the way he passed other karts, and left them no chance to regain there place was just mind blowing, best driving I have ever saw, cant put it into words, but lets just say, when passes you,he makes it stick ;-)

Great weekend,Crail in 2 weeks time, and have high hopes for both of them.

Great report Stu,

Larkhall was always tricky too as the drainage was poor, dunno if they sorted it when it was resurfaced?

Shoomer, does that mean you are in some way related to the Franchitti (sp?) family as well?

Hi Paul
Stefan is in a league of his own I think, even more so in the wet.
So how come you never started in karting?

Hi Dave

The track does dty quick when the sun comes out,but the hairpin is under the trees so stays wet.All adds to the fun :)

Mate,

Good stuff from both of em... I know fine well that I'd have shat it at Larkhall at their age - I was bad enough in a borrowed Rotax round the place!

Some places where you've got a serious turn of speed up fairly close to the barriers and I've seen kids taken away by ambulance more than once...

Fair play to Steven too - sounds like he's got the racer gene "playing with him" - Class! :thumbsup
