Alarm Issues

Post by Novice Racer » Wed Sep 06, 2006 10:14 pm

I have just paid £400 for a new control box and fitting from MMC after water leaked into my old control box and permanently immobilised the car (then totally fcuk up replacing the dashboard - twice! See previous posts)

Now, when I set or unset the alarm, the indicators flash but there is no accompanying beeping sound (used to give 1 beep for disarm and 2 for arm along with the indicator flashes).

Alarm still sounds if triggered by door/engine bay opening in usual way.

Anyone else have this. Is this just an updated box?

John

Is the movement sensor n the cabin still working?
IIRC it's the siren that makes the beep, so if it aint beeping it's probably trying to tell you something?

My alarm doesn't beep unless I disable the motion sensor after arming it. The manual makes no mention of beeps during normal arming so I'd say your old one didn't work right and your new one does.

Mine beeps once when arming, twice when disarming. It beeps even more if you disarm after it's recently been set off. The indicators also flash.

According to the manual, it shouldn't beep unless you disarm the motion sensor. Mine doesn't beep and the alarm works fully as expected as I've tested it. Try arming yours with the roof off then wave your arm around inside the car and see if the alarm goes off. If it doesn't, the motion sensor ain't working.

I got that the wrong way round. Doh. Checked this morning . . . beeps once when disarming, twice when locking/arming.

I still don't have my fecking manual, so don't actually know what it's supposed to do!

I thought the big button central locks and arms the alarm/imobiliser, while the small button only puts alarm/immobiliser on without locking (for some strange reason!). Is that wrong? I didn't even know about the motion sensor!

It's the standard central locking and Cobra alarm that comes with a 111R.

Many thanks for the replies.

My S2 is a 2002 and does not have an internal motion sensor and no central locking.

The previous alarm was a cobra and gave 2 beeps and 2 flashes when arming and 1 beep with 1 flash when disarming.

If there had been any issues during the armed period, there would be 4 flashes with 4 beeps on disarming (ie if the alarm had been set off whilst I was away).

Now the alarm works OK but there are no beeps. The new alarm contrl unit is also a cobra but forgot to ask MMC what the model number was (I will find out). The flashes are EXACTLY the same as above.

Is this just an updated model?

Mine is an S2 2002 (no central locking) as well, with a Cobra, it also beeps and flashes, it has a motion sensor (only found that out when jumping in, scared the crap out of me), you can turn it off, if you press the "wee" button on the alarm fob. So maybe you have turned yours off??

So, that's the only purpose of the wee button? How do you know whether the motion sensor is off or on, other than waving your hands around or jumping in? *

Looks like it's random whether it beeps or not to arm and lock.
When you press the big button to lock and arm, you can press the small one immediately after to disable the motion sensor (so that you can leave the alarm on with the roof off). Disabling the motion sensor should make a beep so you know it's disabled.

Surely you'd want to leave the motion sensor on when the roof is off? :?
