Millionaire boy racers (C4 last night)

Post by Dominic » Fri Jan 04, 2013 12:28 pm

Did anyone else see that program?

Those cars are wasted on those guys. They just seem to have them for posing - crawling around in London traffic, with occasional first gear blasts for 2 or 3 secs. What about the open road?.... OTH, I'm quite happy for them to stay where they are - would not want them to discover the joy of our Scottish roads; can only imagine how the country would respond to them "racing" around our roads. If it were not for them spending their "hard earned cash" on these cars I don't suppose the supercar companies would be thriving quite so much just now.

Yip bunch of twats but at the end the guy did seem to genuinley be jealous of our freedom and all we take for granted. They only get to mess about in lambos for a short while before being forced into marriage and a certian way of life but we get to properly play in our Lotus for life.No choice. :D

I watched the programme with the wife and she made a really good point at one of the commercial breaks. It was an advert for a programme about British casualty admissions at the hospital in kavos :? OK these super rich Arabs bring their super cars over to London in the summer and cause the locals a wee bit of bother but as a country we export millions of Brits to the hotspots of Europe to cause carnage and mayhem without a 2nd thought. I think I know which guests I'd rather have on my doorstep ! Some pretty tasty and equally some pretty vile cars in amongst that lot.

Is it just me or was I the only one not having any sympathy for the local residents?

At their 'residents committee meeting' they'd piss and moan about boy racers hitting 80+ outside their homes yet they were too 'british stiff upper lip' to actually do anything about it.

Yup.... I thought the same. The young lads were pretty personable and seemed alright.
I made the comment half way through to my wife and said "I wonder if anyone has asked them to keep it down". The residents were asked if anyone had spoken to them and they all looked sheepish and said "No". They were too busy complaining to each other and writing letters to their MP's.

Yeah, they made a lot of noise, but it was for 2 weeks in a year FFS. The amount of racist comments that came out of the mouths of the locals were shocking. I'd much rather have these guys doing this, than some of the pissed up brits you get holidaying in spain.

With the ££££££££££££ they have to spend I'm a little surprised they don't hire a race circuit for a day or 2 :thumbsup or even better still arrive in London then drive across Europe via the German autobahns on-route to Italy then fly the cars home from Rome :D

I thought the English (toffee nosed upper class old money) lot came across as jealous that young lads are out there with more money than them. Either this or simply narrow minded (racist? Strong word I know - I am not a liberal PC do gooder by any means but some of the actions and words of these people in my opinion could be deemed as racist). One of the complainants approached a policeman to say 'it doesn't even feel like England anymore' - I think the policeman responded well to this saying he liked the mix of culture.

Tourism is obviously bringing in huge amounts of income that would otherwise be missed and in turn adds value to the properties that these moaners own. If it has got to the point where they find the couple of weeks per year so unbearable then buy ear plugs or sell your house for 20% more than it is worth to the arabs and move to a country mansion.

As for the arabs themselves, it seems clear that they envy our way of life. Their faith based rule of law seems to lead a very restricted way of life for them and it is almost like London is a source for them to blow off steam and get it out their systems. I am hugely jealous of the affluent lifestyle they but would I trade my mine in - nae chance! One of them said he didn't drink etc but what's the odds most of them get steaming and sow their wild oats even though it is against their religious beliefs.

Yeah, she was about the only one I didn't feel sorry for.......snooty cow! Found it quite amusing when one of the film crew asked at the end of residents meeting if any of them had actually spoken to the 'boy racers' directly, answer being a straight 'no'. End of.

Shame these guys don't appear to properly 'drive' these cars and choose just to show them off and annoy all the locals until stupid o'clock in the morning.

Millionaire boy racers (C4 last night)

Post by Sanjøy » Sat Jan 05, 2013 12:05 am

I found the programme more about the racists local than the young Arab lads. They are rich no fault of their own and a few them are acting like dicks when handed the keys to an Aventador. The lad who had a nanny looked genuinely scared of being shopped by her as they have a country and culture where authority is respected and feared (good & bad thing).
If those locals went to speak to the lads (v different to approaching a bunch of neds in corsas) and got nowhere then I would have listened to them more. Their derogatory terms for their tea drinking and sheeshas is no different to racist football chanting. It was the the diversity on London that kept me there so long and something I bitterly miss living in Fife.

I would hate to own those cars and have had such privilege that they meant nothing to them. Well hate for a few minutes.

I found it an odd program, since by the end I was struggling to see its intended purpose...

The visitors are clearly being d!cks (and for that I disliked them), and I would be amazed if anyone here sincerely believes they'd contentedly live with that noise nuisance in their street (let alone the innappropriate hooning), but the prejudices etc of the residents (who I empathised with, yet also disliked!) just diluted the subject for me.

One of those 'never get that time back' experiences for me.

The cop amused me. He was quite happy with the hooning along with the money that they brought in, then has one of their cars towed away that had legal insurance on it.

They are all multi millionaires, so highly unlikely to be driving without insurance in million dollar cars.

For me any respect for the locals went out of the window when they started going in about reverse colonisation and England not feeling like England anymore. A sad reflection on how scared much of the population of the UK are when confronted by globalisation.

The kids were just that. Kids. If I had an aventador at that age I'd have done the same. Ok maybe not hitting 80 in a residential street but you'd still be doing the look at me stuff.

I didn't understand why it was a difficult thing to stop though. Surely you just do speed traps and clamp down on plates, insurance etc?
Focus ST estate, i3s and more pushbikes than strictly necessary.

....did i ever tell you about the Evora and VX220 i used to own?

I actually got a strong whiff of racism coming from the residents. If they really want a quiet life, don't live in the centre of London!

I thought the Arabs all came across very well, apparently they do take their cars around Europe aswell, and to Paris a lot, but come to London for the socialising, women etc..
