Lotus warranty/servicing

Post by Gareth » Fri Sep 29, 2006 11:04 am

OK, so what's the story?
The Exige has another year remaining warranty.
Is the warranty still covered even although I service with non Lotus?
We all know the potential problems with MMC and I know the suggestion will be to travel to Newcastle. 5 hr drive from Aberdeen is really too far. It was have to be a over night stay when you take into consideration of waiting for the service to be done.

I serviced the Elise with Falkland who seem knowledgeable and the two times they have worked on my car, I've been happy with them.
Shame there is no one in Aberdeen that I trust - we did have Lotus a few years ago but that didn't work out. They were worse than useless.
It's really quite ridiculous we have one Lotus dealer in Scotland when England have a choice.

warranty is valid as long as genuine parts are used and service is carried out as per the schedule! :D just found out that all exiges sept 04 onwards have two years unlimited mileage warranty! 8)
even if you go to newcastle youll have change from the service, hotel and drinks compared to mmc prices!

Yup, that was government legilslation brought in a while back to stop dealers monopolising the service market. You can take it wherever you want, as long as you used official parts, etc. as Ed says.

You can use non-official parts too.
If something went wrong though, you'd have to prove any related parts met or exceeded the standard of the original.

If you had engine problems and the car had not been serviced by a Lotus dealer then I think they would try to wriggle out of the warranty work, personally I'll be going to either Lotus Sport at Hethel or F1 at Newcastle.

Yeah... take it to Lotus Sport in Hethel, shell out some more cash on it, enjoy a day down there and cruise back up via every B road imaginable!

That sounds like a 2 day trip worth doing...

I had no idea you could take it to Hethel for services! Might look into that when mine's due next year. Would be a great wee trip and could fit in some visits to friends on the way.
