Evora Advice

Post by Cammy » Thu Dec 26, 2013 11:06 am

Hi Guys & Girls
Not been familiar face on SE for quite some time, but thought what better place to ask for some advice re the Evora.
Have a nice 160 sport that has not turned a wheel since I purchased about 4 months ago (a must have purchase) apart from the drive up from London. I am now thinking 2014 would be a good time to change the 160 for an Evora.
The intention would be to use as an every day car, although do have access to another vehicle. The low to mid £30k mark is appealing as thinking it will not lose as much value as a higher price bracket car over the 12 months I would most likely keep the car.
Is there anything to stay away from? Not sure if an earlier launch spec car or a later car is the way to go. Appreciate any advice forthcoming.

Cheers Callum

Why did you buy the car and only drive it on the motorway, dual carriageway? :scratch

Go and take it for a drive and it will remind you why it was 'a must have purchase'.

Steve.

Get as new a car as you can, preferably with at least Sports Pack (must have) and Tech Pack (very desirable). The Evora was continually improved so the later car you get, the better it will be.

CR box is also desirable, but I didn't notice a huge difference with or without it.

18/19 tyres are significantly cheaper than the 19/20 combo, but don't look as good.

Power fold mirrors is a 5 minute mod so don't worry if it's not got that option. Reverse camera is nice to have but not essential.

Hi Steve

Had many variants of Lotus including a 160 sport in previous years. Always hankered after another hence the reason I bought another, however just don't have the time to enjoy as it should be. I don't believe in having a car just to sit in the garage, especially not a Lotus, therefore thinking if I have something more useable I can have the best of both.

Cheers

Hi Cammy

Did you buy another Scandel 160?

I am also thinking of an Evora next year, but dont think i could part from the 160. I drove a few at Knockhill this year, very impressed, they have come a LONG way from an S1, thats for sure.

The newer the better - build and interior fit has come on leaps and bounds in the last few years. You can tell the external X-German mfr influence. Its significant.

If you can stretch to an S you've got a belter.

The balance of the car is stunning, especially on track and in the wet, where its very apparent. Well set-up its got such a neutral balance with surprising reluctance to understeer, and immediately up for oversteer if you want it to.

High impressed with it - i think the only thing that would deter me is current 997 prices. But its not really the same thing it it???

The few i have driven, i've been very impressed with, just not enough to tempt me from the Gt3.

Hi Stu

Black on Black this one. Here's the link to the car when it was for sale http://www.scottwalkers.co.uk/cars/car.php?id=145
Cracking car, just a shame I don't have the time to drive it with busy workload and kids to think of.
Might take a trip through to MMC and check out the options

Cheers

Hi Andy

I was thinking of a 911, but to be honest got a bit fed up with the 997 C4S when I had it. Great car but felt quite uninvolved. The GT3 will be a different beast all together I'm sure :thumbsup

Something about Lotus just can't get away from. Never drove an Evora S so might be worth trying out, however I fear there will be no going back if I do

Welcome back Cammy...

I know of a certain green 340R for sale....and since you like driving from London maybe the car for you :-)
Justin's Evora at MMC would be a good choice!

Hi Cammy,

That 160 looks 8-) I doubt you'll have much trouble shifting it in the spring. Cannot help on the Evora front ...

Hi Cammy, good to see you back on again. For those of you that were after his time, he was one of our earlier members, lots of road runs and KH's. Also a very useful driver.

Others will have better advice on the Evora, but if I was buying I would go for an S even if you have to go a bit earlier to fit the budget, knowing you, the extra 65hp over the NA would go down well.

ps:- whatever model you buy, stay away from fields.........

I remember Cammy from TT07. Remember that bar there used to be that had a dance floor?:-

Greg: can I have a Corona?
Barman: we've got no lime
Greg: that's no problem
Cammy: ask for a discount
Greg: Don't be daft
Cammy:(aggressively) ask for a fecking discount!
Greg: gulp, can I have a discount please?
Cammy: hey boys, this lad just asked for a discount cause they had no lime!!

Cammy, don't discount a 911. A C2 is a different prospect and with the RPM technik CSR package you can tool one up nicely:-
