Certainly cuts out draughts etc - I did all the work myself and it was far from pleasant :|

Jesus, how much?

Our place is a 400 year old stone shed with too many outside walls and drafts, yet we are doing £75/month in exec and the same in gas with EDF. (~7,500kw elec and ~23,000Kw gas PA)

Bloody luxury. 17,750 kWh for electricity, no gas so oil C/H, and that is just for the two of us now.

Don't know how she manages it but the dishwasher, washing machine, tumble drier, cooker, lights, seem to be on all the time.

How much

You must be using elec to heat something? That's a huge usage....

We're £19 a month for electricity in Ayrshire and Glasgow and not particularly careful with use. Think we're only around £35 a month in gas at each place as well but that = freezing cold 1 bed sandstone flat with tepid tap hot water and toasty 2 bed semi new build with skin removing temp hot water.

Scuffers, take it you've not seen Tut's place? Living down south with warmer avg temps with make a fair difference for a place like yours?

It ain't lights which consume the most power, anything which produces heat such as ovens and fires are the killers...

As Simon says, size really has no effect on electricity consumption if it is not used for heating. All bulbs are low energy and the kitchen and lounge are really the only rooms that we have lights on for any length of time. We do have two large chest freezers which are normally fairly full as we buy in bulk especially meat, and an American fridge/freezer. However size does on oil, coal, and logs and we use all three for heating

We have over a third of the house shut down now that the kids have left, but the multi fuel stove which has a boiler is on 24hrs, as is the oil C/H, so the house never cools down. However we use no electricity for heating. The white goods are probably the killers, but it is still hard to work out why we use about four times as much electricity as an average family, which is given as £1300 annual for combined electricity AND gas.
