The amount of air you get is a function of kinetic energy which is in turn a function of mass; so two identically shaped cars hitting a ramp at the same speed will get the same amount of air, even if one is twice the mass of the other. I agree that the Elise might take a different trajectory because of its shape, but the weight won't make any difference.

Of course the reality is that the ramp here is somebody's car which is not solid/immovable It will move when hit and will move differently based on the mass of the thing that hits it. If you hit it with a lambo at 30mph it apparently crumples; hit it with an elise, the elise would probably just fall apart and there would be no spectacular air :-)

Elises tend to end up on their roof when they go into the ditch/field, dig in and roll. I am sure you can roll an elise hitting another car, but I don't remember it happening.

Cheers,
Robin

I think it went air bourne as the tyres made contact, and the Lambo's front was lifted over the Mazda's. You see it a lot in open wheel racers, but it can happen in full bodied cars too. Just my 2p.

That's exactly what I was thinking. It was more to do with tyre on tyre contact than speed. Didn't look like it was going that fast to me.

I estimate the Lambo was doing an average of just under 60kph after the impact.

It covered 4 car lengths in 1 second. That's ~16m/s, or 960m/min, or ~=60km/hr. Average. Imagine the speed at impact.

I observe an inappropriate speed for the conditions (built up area, pedestrians, parked cars, junction, etc). I don't deny someone pulled into their path. Probably saw the Lambo, assumed doing 20-30, and pulled out in belief the gap was adequate.

Lambo driver may also have been looking at his pax, hence affecting reaction times. Will we ever know? Nope. Will we mourn a bent Aventador? Hell yes!

Personally I think that the accident was caused by the pulling out,

dont get me wrong - the lambo was likley to be speeding judging by the noise, but not by alot, the car seemed to get launched by hitting the wheel of the offending car, which, with the lambo being 4wd and the chap not being too quick to react the drivtrain could well have still been in force giving it more drive on impact.

I totally agree with dom on the one, it could have been avoided by being more aware of the surroundings and having quicker reactions, however, like many many supercar owners, they may be cash rich, but talent is is often something that they lack!

Have watched the first 5 seconds (full speed) several times now. For me the Lambo was definitely speeding. This not to say it was all his fault though. Shame the camera doesn't pan to the right, its possible something was parked on the opposite side of the road making it difficult for the driver pulling out to see vehicles oncoming. Are articulated lorry there would explain this drivers behaviour more clearly.

Ah , edited to say 58 seconds shows parked vehicles up the left no lorry. Still could have hidden a low car however.

With Dom in this one. To add though, if you look at 0.41 you will see a double decker bus driving away that was probably blocking the Mazda's sight line as Scott touched on.

100% the Mazda's fault though.

cant tell for sure but you can just see at 0:57 the car (potentially ) behind the lambo was a ferrari or maserati.... cant see that well into it
