10k in May
10k in May
Hi Folks,
I’m doing the 10k run in Aberdeen on the 18th May.
As most of you who know me will be well aware I’m not the fittest, in fact I don’t think I’ve ever even ran for a bus let alone run 10k. Well as I’m fast approaching the big” Six O” I decide I wanted to do a marathon before I reach that milestone, so my target is to start with the 10K run then progress onto to a half marathon later in the year.
I’ve created a “Just giving” page and would be grateful if any of you kind guy’s would want to make a donation, my nominated charity is MacMillan Cancer support.

Many thanks
Graham

Re: 10k in May
Hi Again,
Firstly thank you very much for your generous donations, but as most of you already know I didn't manage to take part in Aberdeen's 10k run on the 18th May as my Appendix burst while I was on holiday the week prior to the run.
Well today I made the trip down to Glasgow to do the 10k run at Bellahouston park. I had previously set myself a target time of 55mins (OK I'm nearly 60 ), but following the Op. I decided to just make sure I completed the distance, my time was 61 mins. so although a little disappointed I was chuffed to make it to the finish so soon after my Op.
Now looking for the next 10k after Spazz as I now have a point to prove to myself, next target is around 50 mins.
Once again thank for your donations which all went to a good cause "Macmillan Cancer Support".
Cheers

Re: 10k in May
That's a great effort Graham.
Are you enjoying it or just enduring it for your own challenge?

Re: 10k in May
Really enjoying it, although some days its a bit of a struggle. Oh yes, the big plus point is I've lost 24 pounds in weight without going on any kind of diet. ( just cut out the chocolate)
Feeling way better too, and its good meeting your personal challenges. When I started earlier this year my time was 1hour 15/20 mins and seeing that come down has been great. A few more 10k's before trying Half marathon though.

Martin,
10k passed along time ago on the Exige, and after Spazz probably over 15k

Graham,
You're welcome to my space in the Bannockburn 700 10k next Sunday as I'm away for it just now.
I've just entered the Crieff 10k on the 13th of July as I'm home for that one. Maybe see you there!
Gerard

Thanks, normally would have said yes. But will be travelling to Spa on Sunday with the rest of the SPAZZ'ers.gedi wrote:Graham,

Re: 10k in May
How long did this take you to get to 10k? Just from the time of the first post till now?
Did you have a structure to your schedule? Or did you just run as much as you could each time you trained?

I started running just before my post earlier this year around the end of February. I haven’t had any fixed routine, I just built up slowly as I didn’t fancy not seeing the big Six-O next year. Bought myself a good treadmill, and used it every second or third night. I would go through and watch the news and run instead of sitting down to watch it. Initially started running at between 6 and 8 KPH for about 20 mins, then slowly up’d the speed and the duration. I’m now up to about 10/11KPH for an hour. I now prefer to get outside now if the weather is fine.
Feeling way fitter and loving it, the down side is none of my trousers fit anymore.
Cheers
