Anyone on here live or know what its like to stay in Bo'ness.
We have seen a period property that has been recently renovated and was wondering what Bo'ness is like?
Somewhere to avoid or is the place OK (only been down the central belt for 10 years so should really know what areas are like by now

).

There's a couple on here that live in Bo'ness.
I've spent as fair bit of time there as I worked very near.
It's not a bad place, like most small towns it's got it's good and bad bits.
I'd live there.

PM McKean. He'll tell you all you need to know. And more. Try for Linlithgow if you can though. Just over into the next valley

Thanks we are going to view anyway. Admit that Linlithgow is more desirable but it also comes at more of a premium so will have to weigh it up.
Only issue is that the house does not have a garage but has enough space to build one easily.
How much does a decent garage (double/triple) cost to build ?

also what do you intend to do in the town??
most of the pubs are a bit rough, but a taxi to linlithgow isnt that much. The supermarket is ok, but again, linlithgow is just over the hill for more choices. You can be about as close to the train station as some of the parts of linlithgow, but parking at the station isnt the easiest, they overspill onto surrounding roads.
I live in bo'ness, i walk the dog there but other than that i dont need much more from the town. There isnt much of a town centre shopping vibe to speak of, but it depends on what you need

Neil,
To be honest as we stay on the outskirts of Broxburn so we don't tend to use any pubs/shops their either.
However really looking for a bigger property and large garden for the dog. Toying between the idea of remoteness or living somewhere closer to civilisation so we aren't having to walk the dog on b roads.
All a bit of deciding whether we want a long commute to south gyle in Edinburgh as well.

For dog walking, you have Kinneil woods and the area to the north of it, in the SW-W corner of the town (near where i stay) or the shore, where you can walk along to Blackness. There are good and bad areas to every town, i'd definitely go for a drive about on a friday or saturday night to see what you think. Its not the kind of place you'll get robbed or stabbed, but some bits are definitely poor areas with the roughness that tends to go with it

I think that property has been on the market for ages. I believe dj Alexanders are also trying to rent it out. Unsure why it hasn't sold tbh so must be more to it.

Bo'ness is ok, nice central location but one thing that puts me off is the smell from Grangemouth refinery and waste treatment works, at times it is really prevalent, the locals probably become inured to it over time though!.

Thanks for all the replies. Going to see the house tomorrow and will then decide whether to pursue any more investigations into what its like to live their.
Looking at a number of others (all over the central belt) so we at least have a decent shortlist.

Travelling from Fife isn't too bad. I've got a few mates who commute from Dalgety Bay
