Spa
Re: Spa
One of his reasons was to save the engine given that he's an engine down on Nico. I wouldn't blame him for wishing to retire.

Re: Spa
Was pretty pointless carrying on. He was driving the wheels off of the car and couldn't close down the Lotus ahead due to the damage to his floor. All the news surrounding this now points to Rosberg deliberately not avoiding the coming together. Be interesting to see how this pans out now.campbell wrote:One of his reasons was to save the engine given that he's an engine down on Nico. I wouldn't blame him for wishing to retire.
Of the 2 Nico is obviously more settled within the team and probably feels that he is No1 driver. Maybe fancies himself as the next MS and can get away with doing what he likes given he is leading the championship.

Re: Spa
As a driver, I think Lewis has the upper hand, and they both know it. I think Nico was trying to stamp his authority on the situation with his pass, but it failed. With the team's response, I think Lewis gained more from it (ok, not points).
Re: Spa
I agree that the move was poorly timed from the perspective of maximum points for driver and team.
Psychologically it was spot on. It tells Lewis that he won't be pushed around on track anymore, so leave me space or crash and risk zero points. Nico can better afford zero points. As it happened it worked out fantastically well and Nico must be ecstatic about that. Lewis, on the other hand, will probably need therapy before the next race. All is fair in love and war

Re: Spa
It actually made for a better race as the two of them would have run away with it, Ricciardo actually did, but there was plenty of scrapping behind.
In fact I think that I will start rooting for him, never seen him give a bad interview, slag any other driver off, nearly always cheerful and positive, dicking Vettel, what's not to like?

Re: Spa
Agree with that, the boy has talent which can't be said for some on the grid. I find it a bit disappointing that so many teams have given there seats to drivers that have essentially paid for their drive at the exclusion of young talent. They said on Sky that it makes sacking them for poor performances very difficult. It is after all supposed to be the pinnacle of motorsport.tut wrote:It actually made for a better race as the two of them would have run away with it, Ricciardo actually did, but there was plenty of scrapping behind.

But then, does speed make F1 the pinnacle of motorsport?PieterA wrote:Lotterer wasn't at all impressed by the F1 car and said his LMP1 car felt just as fast, sometimes even faster..Mikie711 wrote:It is after all supposed to be the pinnacle of motorsport.
Also, he qualified just under 8 seconds off the pole time, or 6 seconds off the fastest car in Q3 / with the same conditions.
The first GP race, which I reckon was also on Saturday, i think before the qualifying and in wetter conditions had a fastest lap only 2.5 seconds slower than Lotterer's qualifying time, I guess meaning that Lotterer in the Caterham racing in GP2 would have been like Mercedes is to Formula 1

Re: Spa
Speed definitely isn't everything, and the biggest speed advantage of the LMP1 cars is due to the massive downforce they're allowed to generate.Corranga wrote:But then, does speed make F1 the pinnacle of motorsport?PieterA wrote:Lotterer wasn't at all impressed by the F1 car and said his LMP1 car felt just as fast, sometimes even faster..Mikie711 wrote:It is after all supposed to be the pinnacle of motorsport.

But my point was that it's kind of sad he wasn't even a little bit impressed. He should've been impressed, even in one of the slowest cars on the field.
