Re: F1 Double points POLL
I think the double points thing is making a circus out of the drivers championship. Why should the last race be any more valuable that the 1st (or any other) race? All it's doing is diminishing the sporting integrity of the championship because Bernie wants to sell more TV rights?

As above.
It's not a drivers championship, hasn't been for some time but this takes the biscuit.

F1 has lost its way and turned into a soap opera based around some average racing. Kind of like Eldorado.

Under the "old" points system, 6th place for Lewis would secure the championship even if Nico were to win. So, if Nico wins and Lewis finishes 3rd - 5th, the new points system will have cost Lewis the championship. Makes a farse of it. If that is the case, I can't help but wonder if people will regard Lewis as the true champion. If I were Nico in that scenario I would feel it was a hollow championship win - created only by the goofey rules.
On the other hand, KERS (Now ERS or whatever) and DRS were regarded as false meddling, but there is no denying that they have given us more actions and some good battles to watch. I guess the points is just a step too far.
Re: F1 Double points POLL
i think its great. double points for the last race, go faster boost for overtaking... cant wait till they introduce jumps, rival hunting turtle shells and magic stars so you can shrink the rest of the field at will.
Re: F1 Double points POLL
Don't agree with the double points, but looking forward to watching the last race.

Re: F1 Double points POLL
As Hamilton was within 1 sec of Rosberg in the race, why did he not use DRS and the ERS hp boost that they have to get past?
He had the advantage with being behind, and we have seen several instances of this happening previously between matched cars.

The red bombs always get you on the last lap when you're in the lead.Dipper wrote:i think its great. double points for the last race, go faster boost for overtaking... cant wait till they introduce jumps, rival hunting turtle shells and magic stars so you can shrink the rest of the field at will.

Re: F1 Double points POLL
F1, despite meddling and driver penalties has managed to produce some amazing nail biting finishes, without the double bubble final race. I suppose the consolation is that Bernie has scraped it after this year but I still don't understand why it wasn't dropped for this year too. Actually it will make it even more of a hollow victory if the double points changes the outcome - in years to come it will seem like it was implemented to alter the result.

To be honest I am bored with F1 and have stopped watching it.

100% No - crazy idea.
Re: F1 Double points POLL
It's a farce and devalues the sport. Like most other cash rich sports, it's no longer about the sport but only about making as much money as possible out of the suckers who watch (As a Sky Sports subscriber, I include myself in that).
The likes of Bernie and Sepp Blatter put me off watching sport altogether, I'm much happier playing a good golf course now than going to sporting events.
If Nico wins because of the double points it will be a hollow victory and sport historians will look at him in only slightly higher regard than Ben Johnson or Lance Armstrong, albeit, he's playing the rules but will never be seen as a deserved winner.

Re: F1 Double points POLL
Tut, the tyres were marginal so the opportunities to push were very limited. LH blew it when he spun [NR dropped a Mario Kart banana or similar] trying to jump NR in the pits. This spin cost him 7s; had he not spun he would have jumped NR and stayed ahead of him.tut wrote:As Hamilton was within 1 sec of Rosberg in the race, why did he not use DRS and the ERS hp boost that they have to get past?

I think that if LH could have overtaken NR he would have done so in the first or second stint. Most likely running in the dirty air + limited overtaking opportunities + NR having better pace meant that LH could not gain enough advantage to overtake on track.
Cheers,
Robin
Re: the points, I don't really care. It's the same for everyone. Perhaps tactically you should have reserved your best engine for this race. Perhaps LH should have entered this race with more of an advantage than he did. If LH loses the title it won't be the points wot did it, it will be LH/Merc reliability.

Re: F1 Double points POLL
Interesting article in The Times sports section yesterday - Writer's opinion / speculation, but it seems that Bernie is behind a push to return to larger capacity V8 engines.
While it may appear something of a backwards step, stranger things have happened - And if they did go this route, Mercedes would very likely withdraw their entry ASAP...
