NLC - Android App developers in Central Scotland

Post by r055 » Tue Jan 06, 2015 12:44 pm

Hello,

apologies for something with absolutely no lotus content, but as we have a fair number of resident geeks, I thought I'd at least ask...

We are currently embarking on a project to upgrade a lot of our IT business systems... its a long term project.
However I have a short term requirement for a simple android app to be used by our field based staff to replace all the fecking bits of paper floating around...

Ideally looking for a no-frills (but stable) app that our staff can use with Android tablets and phones to fill out a number of forms and email them back to base.
I'd rather go with an SME than an individual geek person to do this.

Does anyone have any recommendations?
Found this company (http://kotikan.com/)on a google search and they look ideal, but I'd rather go with recommendations.

Cheers
Ross

Could you do it with adobe acrobat? I get my team to do their overtime sheets on a simple form I made, Digitally sign it and email it.

Couple of things...

1) My guess is you'll crap your pants at the quoted prices for a custom app. Software isn't cheap when it's bespoke, because the entire development cost has to be made back on 1 sale.
2) This isn't really a problem (at least not as you've described it) that should need a custom app. Gathering data and emailing it somewhere isn't exactly complicated.

Have you tried any of the mobile forms apps which already exist for Android?

thanks Graeme - havent tried those specific apps, but have tried a few others... iauditor was one ive played about with quite a bit.
There is still time required to set it up and we just dont have the time/ resource to do it at the moment.

Its pretty much converting a simple excel or word template into a form that we can push out to all android devices, so I hadnt thought it would be hard... our new system (prob a year away) will include this, but with more enterprise/ integration functions.

It's something I would have loved to take a few days out to do myself as I quite enjoy them, but I just cant get the time!

What about paying somebody to configure an existing forms app rather than starting from scratch?

Another option is do a web based form submission which will work on all devices (Macs, PCs etc), the web server can then send the email if you need.

Thought about that using our SharePoint, but need it to be able to work offline (at least be able to fill out form offline) as our network coverage is gash, particularly in some deep dark plant rooms we work in :)

Have a word with Cameron Leask at Escrivo. They may not be able to build the app but might recommend a team that can

+1 for Escrivo.
Cameron has already done some app development and is keen to find more, and more than familiar with collecting and forwarding data!
He's based in Edinburgh and can be contacted on 0131 225 8199 or cameron at escrivo dot com

I'll send you some guys that work downstairs from us who i know are just coming to the end of a big project (2 owners, 4 devs) so fit your SME requirement. Guy's called Lol Scragg, really lovely guy and Android apps are their thing.
