Police catching speeders Q?

Post by I-Mac » Mon Apr 20, 2015 9:21 am

So driving into work recently I have passed the police out catching speeding motorists……on a 1-1/2 mile dead straight. There are thick trunked established trees on one side and the police reverse their unmarked BMW 3 series into the Field/Opening that is ¾ of the distance along the straight.

All this is fine - assuming they have the land owners permission to park in the field entrance (?), however the bobby holding the speed camera is standing at the side of the road is fully clothed in his black uniform….whilst his partner in a high vis jacket hides behind a tree….

Surely police are not allowed to operate next to the main road without high vis on????

This is now twice in a week they have been in the same spot employing the same tactic. Any bobbies on here to advise?

Ask for the accident stats for that stretch...

"Guidelines issued by the Association of Chief Police Officers state police using speed guns 'must be clearly visible to the public and the target vehicle throughout the check".

I've wondered this about hiding up the joining slip-roads at dual carriageway and motorway junctions. How is that visible to targeted traffic? I see our local plod doing this a lot.

Time for public intervention. I'm sure a wee word from a knowledgeable person would have them scuttle off with tails between legs....

If I had a GoPro I would film them.... Really peeved me off that they seemed to be flouting their own guidance and placing an officer at the side of a busy A road without Hi-Vis just to catch people.

They have been up to that quite frequently recently. Durris straight is always a favourte along with the hiding spots on the a90. Hide in their red a5, grey 3series coupe and black estate BM. Seen in a verity of unorthodox setups, sitting low down in unmarked cars peeking out with the speed guns. One in the car miles back from he road in hi vis and the other behind a fence/post in black uniform.

They sit at the end of our private road (no permission ect) blocking the entrance and I've been forced to stop on the dual carriageway several times whilst they move out of the way.

It's not worth confronting them or complaining, its a well known fact that one of the officers will go out of his way to stake you out and pick on you. He's always been akward and it wouldn't be that hard to work out where the complaint has come from...

Dial 999 and tell them you've just seen someone dressed in black hiding behind a bush pointing what you believe to be a gun at you.
