Hi all,

anyone know the info on the chrome orange Cat C elise on ebay?
It is in Edinburgh.

Just going by the ad, it looks like it was a titanium coloured car (see the interior through the windscreen - does not match the exterior). That alone would make me wary to how well other things had been done / short cuts taken.

The soft top also looks a bit tired / saggy IMHO.

If that's true it appears its records haven't been updated. It also appears to be a cat B, not C.

From mytextcheck:
Lotus Elise 1.8
VIN***3502 Jun98
8 owners
No colour changes
No stolen record
Not scrapped

R572KCD has multiple insurance loss records. Most serious is damage category B. Loss date 01-05-2008

Does Cat B not mean that it can't be put back on the road?

yep, officially a CAT B can only be acquired by a registered salvage/car dealer and sold for spares as the chassis is damaged.

However Scuffers says that there are ways around it, I presume legally, and they have appeared back on the road.

No colour change? so the titanium door must be a replacement with only one side painted, how lazy, wonder if the passenger side is the same, that said is the sill bit that meets the roll bar not titanium too? bit of a miss mash of a car, I thought Cat B was parts only too... wouldn't be my money buying that, unless it has some seriously nice usable bits that they forgot to list lol

Mark, I would rather venture its had a exterior only paint job and no colour change recorded to the DVLA. Only a look at the V5 would say for sure.

so the V5 is for a grey car? All seems properly dodgy and very expensive for what it is to me

Not what I said. ;-) I was just suggesting that it's more likely had that paint job and not recorded than a door swap. It could be completely legit. If it's CatB then the paint would be low down on the things to be checking properly. :thumbsup
