Oak furniture sellers

Post by campbell » Tue Feb 02, 2016 1:46 pm

Any personal recommendations beyond the pile it high sell it cheap Oakfurnitureland mob?

Looking at some grown up stuff for the lounge.

Central Scotland preferred. Budget up to mid level, but not prepared to go high end as kids are still too young to be trusted :-/

Tried our old fave Belgica but nothing jumping out there so far.

Cheers

Oakland is actually worth a look if they have what you are after. I bought some bedroom furniture 4 years ago and it has survived the warm underfloor heating better than some more expensive items I have. I would recommend going to a Oakland shop though as some items are better designed than others and it lets you see exactly what you would be getting.

Oak furniture land stuff seems to be fine, I re-did the living room in their stuff and no problems so far. I should warm you that they come with some amount of packing though so arrange a skip :D

No same place, if it's not what you are after I can understand that, I wouldn't describe anything they have as unique. However it is all oak and pretty well put together so definitely a step up from flatpack or chipboard furniture. I had my doubts, as the underfloor heating has dried out joints on some pretty expensive items, but 4 years in and the Oakland stuff is still in good shape. At the time there was nothing similar for the cost and they even threw in a huge mirror.

Lady at my work had issues with Oak Furniture Land. The drawers in hers units didn't line up and cupboard doors were squint, she had a mare with them trying to sort it out, they sent out a gut with replacement parts who fitted them and the issue was still there, fault was with the carcass, she wanted replacements and had a major fight with them to have them replaced and they were refusing here a refund. May not be typical experience though but was hers :(

Is one that spings to mind. Probably heading into the high end though so one to keep in mind for when the kids can be trusted.

I was in Ikea at the weekend (shudder... :leave ) and couldn't help but notice that they have a range of solid oak furniture, as well as the usual veneered cheapo stuff.

We've got quite a few things from Furniture Mountain. Some of the bigger items come flat pack but it's pretty good quality. Probably a bit far for you though as they appear to only be in Dundee and Aberdeen.

Loads of stuff on eBay, have used this company twice without problem. Kuba range, few people selling it.

Euan Cuthbertson at Taylor Made is worth a shout;

Although it sounds like he might be pricey, a few folk I know have been surprised how reasonable his prices are.
