Land Rover pull.

Post by tut » Thu Mar 31, 2016 12:44 pm

Didn't tell Verian anything about this as she would only nag me and give me a hard time for going over 60 at all.

However when the postie came this morning Verian was in the garden and he mentioned it to her. I overtook two cyclists just before I came into Dufftown, so had slowed down anyway and could not understand at first why I had been stopped. Turned out that it was him riding with his wife.

Told her what had happened instead of thinking quickly and saying that I had pulled in for petrol and we were just chatting, as he recognised me from KH when he had been there with his TVR. Losing the art of lying on the fly.

Having a hard time parsing this... what happened? You got pulled for speeding by police in a land rover and your postie spotted you getting nabbed?

What did the police say?

From the SIDC thread.....

Made it safe and sound thanks Campbell.

Rain and standing water was really bad on the A90 approaching dangerous, so decided to take the back roads. KH to Keith is also 30 miles less in a straight line than going via Aberdeen. Glenshee was very wet but it had dried out by Braemar and I had a great run over the Lecht then Tomintoul and Dufftown.

Slowed down to 30 then got the blues and a siren behind me from a bloody old Landrover. He was just leaving his house in Tomnavoulin when I went through so he took off after me. I never bother with the speedo on those roads, we just drive the bends so you don't get upto big speeds as there are no straights. He said he was doing over 90, but that was probably just trying to catch up with me which he could not do until I hit the 30. However he was fine, no lecture, said that my driving was good and safe, just to keep an eye on the speedo. Think he actually enjoyed putting his foot down and catching up with an Elise. The car drives beautifully on the road, think that I actually enjoyed it as much as the track, those roads almost make a better one as they are so empty.

Knackered now though and typing from bed, was up at 0400 and got a lot of track time in plus six hours on the road so hardly surprising. Thanks again for all the work on the car Craig, it was well worth it as she never put a foot wrong.

ps:- think that I can safely claim the passenger record. Dom's friend was 6' 9" and well over 20 stone. Could not change gear so just left it in 4th all the way round.

Added this later Graeme.

"Being stopped on that road is a little worrying, though it was probably a one off co-inciding event and would never happen again. Many of us have driven that road dozens of times, probably over a 100 in my case, obviously there would never be a Scam Van on it, though I have seen one on the lower Lecht. Likewise I have never seen a Patrol Car on the road, no point, so this would have been the village police house with a LR, though it was probably a Defender.

When we were chatting he mentioned that he had a TVR and that they were great roads for a sports car, and I mentioned that if he had been following me at over 90 then he was a braver man than I was, as I would have not managed that in the Elise as there were no straights, plus I was not interested in straight line speed, which raised a smile. I was checking my mirrors even though I did not see much point, but never saw him so he could never have seen me again until we got into Dufftown. Would have liked to have asked him which car would have been safer at over 90 on those roads, but I am not that stupid. Relevant point though.

None of us stick to the speed limits on those roads except for the villages, and I doubt that we even bother looking at the speedo as you are watching the next bend, there are no real straights so speeds would be between 60-80 with the odd 50 bend. No chance of catching more than 3 points but I have always worked on no chance of any. Have we ever had any on the backroads on our S_E, TT runs, if so I can not recollect them? If I had no points then it would not really bother me so not sure what to do now, there is no fun driving them at the speed limit which would mean sticking to the 75 mph convoys that we use to KH.

I lose my six points early next year so I suppose I could hibernate until then. I realise that this is an open Forum before anybody reminds me, but if Big Brother has nothing better to do than check my movements and confessions that I sometimes exceed the speed limit, then respect to him for dedication to his job. He could even move up the ladder and train to be a Scam Cam driver.
