Lap of the new Baku F1 Circuit

Post by Dave » Fri Jun 03, 2016 11:50 am

On board footage of a lap of the new Baku circuit. Could make for an interesting race.

Looks good. Much longer than I would have expected.

I love the comments. There's a petition to name turns 8-11 "Maldonado" :-)

It's an army circuit : left, right, left, right...

Jeez that is dull. Got to hand it to Baku - buildings/city looks impressive (if a bit uniform)...

Cretins still at it, three mins left of P3 and Perez puts it into the wall again at T15.

It's practice you dickhead, equally Qually is just coming up and you will probably be without a car. Because you were trying to shave a tenth off when it did not matter on a corner you know has been lethal. Plus you are not Senna or Schuey, you do not have the ability to miss a wall by 1mm on a Street circuit, you will never be World Champion, in fact keep this up and you will not even have a job.

Was the catheter tripping nurse called Perez by any chance?

Actually putting Perez into a group Don, not singling him out. Not much point in being in the World's top twenty if you are not going to engage your brain at the same time.

Two of the longest straights on the calendar, what is the point of risking your car for a tenth when you still have Qually to come, never mind the Race itself?

I have a suspicion that Rosberg played him a bit, though cannot be sure - it feels like he must have sandbagged a bit during practice (like they all do to an extent, but maybe sandbagged a few tenths more here and there than Hamilton might expect him to). Then pull out all the stops in qualifying and put the pressure on, hope that he makes a mistake - as soon as he makes a mistake, he's on the back foot and the pressure just builds.

Either that or it was just good fortune that it worked out that way.

Anyway, might be fun watching the come back from 10th on 50p piece tyres :-) My money is on a safety car within the first 10 laps, Hamilton changes tyres at just the right moment and then wins, but then again the exact opposite could happen - change tyres early, drop back to near last and spend the next 30 laps clearing all the traffic.

In any case it's bound to be a Mercedes 1-2 unless either of them crash (again :-)).

Cheers,
Robin
