The Best Roads - South Queensferry to St Andrews

Post by Andy G » Thu Mar 14, 2019 9:42 pm

Hi guys

Any of our resident car run addicts care to suggest the best road route from South Queensferry to St Andrews?

Trying to find hidden gems and interesting routes. Time not critical.

Appreciate your help

Andy

No sizeable gems I’m aware of, Andy.

Coast road is scenic through East Neuk villages. Lots of photo opps in the wee harbours.

Might do worse than pick up Knockhill road, stop at Powmill for rolls and cake.

Then cruise across darkest Fife to Ellie and start the coastal tour Image

I did the Tourist route to Elie two weeks ago and it was crap. Too many 20s, Speed bumps etc. The only bit that was half decent was the bit at the end.
It's not Terrys, its mine! 8)

I know a few hidden gems.. some might remember when we went to Leuchers the second time, I planned a route with Richard Humble..

Will need to wait till i get home again to pull the routes off the computer.
Well it moves... might as well make the most of it....

Thanks Campbell - yeah struggling a bit with this, as the roads generally to St Andrews I dont recall being that great at all, but need to get out and drive so if you feel inspired to do the same, many thanks :cheers

Yup totally agree Ed, that used to be good fun (when I was a kid we went there a lot) , but its now sh*t, busy, and a real PITA. Figure there has to be some great backroads I'm missing though.

South of St Andrews is pretty meh. Scenic as suggested but only ever fun for 500 yards at a time. Last breakfast meet up we did was up that way and for the southerners it was pretty dull sadly (the roads not the company at lunch! 😉😂 ) Much better Stirlingshire way.

I will be honest. The first thing I do if I want an interesting run is head out of Fife via the shortest route possible.

Strung together a few of my favorite sections. Be warned though, not all of these are suitable for a mega low front splitter at speed, to be fair, that is the same for most of the back roads in Fife. Couple of speed bumps going through Lesley and watch for mud on the road after Newburgh.
