One for the App Techy Types

Post by rossybee » Sat Mar 29, 2025 10:03 am

In the light of the Discord thing (I'll admit I'd never heard of it - but then not being involved in such stuff, had no reason to have :blackeye )

Thinking about which apps could be out there to assist with our current family situation of the fact my father was diagnosed with dementia a couple of years ago and is now at a stage where it's impacting my mother and we're (Brother, sister and me) and needing to be more organised to help her out, over and above sporadic visits etc.

I had drawn up a weekly timetable on the laptop to shuffle things around so we could plan external care/clubs for dad to give mum some respite - but my brother (more tech than I) came up with the app idea.

"There are some that have planners, plus the facility for task lists e.g. jobs needing done around the house, etc plus messages, and several other features, all within one app.

3 that spring to mind;
- FamilyWall
- Cozi
- FamCal

There may well be others, but certainly worth reviewing these three as a kick off. So it would be good to download them onto our phones and check for compatibility. Certainly we can evaluate features like shared calendars, to-do lists, and communication tools.
Thoughts?
"

So basically looking for knowledge if any of the 3 he has mentioned are standout, or if there are others out there which are better?

Thanks in advance and apologies for the lengthy post :thumbsup

Have a wee look at Trello

Business team oriented BUT free to use, easy to get started, works on phone app and computer web browser.

Kanban concept - cards, lists, drag & drop, can assign things to people, flexible notification options.

Thoughts are with you as this is a difficult phase.

Hi Ross
I'm in a similar position with my mum. I'd never even considered using apps to manage and share visits/appointments.
Brilliant idea. I'm sure there must be many others that could benefit from this. I'd be interested to hear in which app you go for.

Hi Duggie

Sorry to hear about your Mum - it's a difficult thing to experience - all you can do is cater for their changing needs and ensuring (in my case my Mum) the other half is getting support, as they're effectively landed into the role of lead carer.

Huge learning curve for us 3 (the offspring)

Family Wall seems to be getting the thumbs up so far - there's been a heated exchange in our WhatsApp group chat as I feel there's lack of communication, something that needs addressed before an app can be suitably effective. And I'm the youngest and was always seen as the dafty!
