The oil and gas gravy train looks to be coming to an end for me, eta Q2 2026. I currently work as a control room operator (basically Homer Simpson) at Mossmorran Ethylene Cracker in Fife but its getting shut down early next year so I'm potentially on the look out for a new opportunity. I just have no idea what.
Skills wise, I don't have a trade to fall back on. I've been an operations/production tech my whole life so I'm not really brimming in transferable skills unfortunately. Onshore oil and gas jobs in Scotland are drying up so my options are retrain in something else and start at the bottom, work abroad, or retire.
Whilst retirement is my number one choice, despite the hairline, i'm only 44 years old
I have the start up cash to start my own business, i just have no idea what that could be. Any suggestions?
