We deal a lot with Graham Technologies at SAIC as ScottishPower use quite a lot of the GT software.

TBH, I'm not quite sure, as I work in our Telecoms sector and not Energy & Utilities, but I sit near the E&U guys and I know they do stuff up at Cathcart and with SAIC. I hear them mention systems called "MITS" and I think they do energy trading systems and stuff like that. I really should know more about what other sectors in my company do . . . but I focus so much on Telco stuff that I don't really keep up with the other sectors.

You'll maybe hear us referred to as "RTEL" (Real Time Engineering Ltd).

I'm personally a business analyst at the moment and I'm working on-site for a full year for Thus in the business analysis team in their development department. I'm currently working on the integration of Thus with Your Communications, the Manchester-based company they recently aquired. I work on systems in all areas of the business . . . IN platforms, provisioning, mediation, billing, generally all OSS and BSS.

As well as this kind of consultancy work, we do IDA & CPS provisioning systems, number management systems, rebates payments systems and self-care systems for NTS call plan provisioning. We mainly work with Thus and another similar company who I'm not supposed to mention because we have an NDA with them.

Who do you work for Ken? What kind of stuff do you do?

I work for SAIC (we are an IT outsoucring company in the UK and a defense/military facing company worldwide - 44,000 staff) as their Network Solutions Manager. I run a small team who support all SAIC's data and telephony networks in the UK and also to India as well as our secure connections to our customers networks. We also do external consultancy and design and implement data networks and IPT solutions. Ten years ago I was the only ScottishPower network guy who did not join Thus (or Scottish Telecom as they were then) I can tell you why when we next meet up, better not say on line. I still deal with Thus on and off as we use some of their circuits and they work with us on some customer projects.

Yeah i look after a small team of reporting analysts doing all the complaints reporting for SP......was previously an analyst in marketing so i've dealt with SAIC a lot.

I think it's 6 that is causing the main problems, although 7 still causes me bother........mainly to do with inconsistencies on how each version / program writes an audit trail. I'm sure SP's stunning ability to b*gger up IT projects is at the root of the problem   The mere mention of the complaints tracker at SAIC will prob produce some screams along with mention of "that bunch of demanding t*ssers in the reporting team..."

You should give me a shout next time you are in Cathcart 8) (you too Dezzy! )

Hi,

Do you want me to mention this to someone in the GT team for you? If so please call me at work on 708 5187.

I very rarely get to Cathcart anymore as I don't really do any direct work for SP anymore which is strange as I worked in Cathcart for 6 years. I was also the call centre upgrade PM 9 years ago and it had me pulling my hair out at times. I had to do a 32 hour solid stint in the office, still bear the scars.

I am currently working on a tender for telephony for SP so hopefully I will get the chance to come across often very soon.

Do you ever get to Peel Park? If so please let me know and we can have a coffee. Are you the guy with the VX220? I was down in Hemel last week working and one of my colleagues there has one it was the first time I had been in one. I have to say it was fun wizzing :drive along at 120mph oops I mean when we were on private land

Cheers for the offer Ken, unfortunatley GT an SAIC are all to aware of the issues we have  working out how to fix them is proving a bit tricky!

Have only been to Peel park a couple of times but will def give you a shout next time I'm over, hopefully I'll be in the VX by then and not still in this courtesy vectra
