1st picture doesn't look like too much of a serious accident, just drove off the road, messed up the front of the truck, everyone should be ok...
but had they gone a few feet further off road it would have been a whole different story...

The deformed crash barrier appears to be on the other side of the culvert though!

OT, but I have an old friend who survived a fall pretty much like that.
Walked away with only stitches (quite a few mind you)
He was blind drunk at the time (when else would you fall over a cliff?) and the consensus at the hospital was that being pissed saved his life.
He woke up the next day with a very sore head and no recollection of anything
