To put your mind at ease Neil:-)
LGV's are not affected so a new L200 is still ok
Neither are pre March 2006 passenger vehicles as they remain in band F
So it's really only those huge big motors that used to have luxury car tax levied on them that are hit. I see a new niche Rangerover Commercial being available soon tho'

..really don't think the increase in tax will have make much of a difference to values, as NOOPS 160 says those that can afford to run around in such vehicles aren't going to worry.
However I do think there is a dropping off in interest generally in 4x4s - probably attributatble to the anti lobby in general, or maybe they have run their course, to be replaced by the next must have accessory.
More of a worry is that sports cars were mentioned along with 4x4s several times in the run up to the budget and I fear we may be the next target to be blamed for the global warming nonsense.
Despite the fact that the current Lotus range is more economical than many cars on the road, the perception is that they must be un-economical and 'sports cars' in general could well be the next target after 4x4s!!

Brown seems to have missed something out if this is a green tax (which we know it isn't - but let's humor him for the moment)
Schoolboy economics teachs about the value of ostentation (sp) - this hasn't been factored in. There are some out there who will use the increased excise as a badge of snobbery.

They have put the tax up £100 this year and a further £100 next year. Given that you are talking about cars which cost over £35k and often over £50k, which depreciated at say £7 p/a (often more) and which cost about £100 to fill up are the people who buy them really that worried about the cost of their motoring?
Don’t see the sales of £60K Rangerovers being hit by an extra 5 or 6 hundred quid in running costs over a three year period.
Particularly when the depreciation alone is likely to be thirty grand.

Agree with all above.
And with an achievable 40mpg, Elises are not under threat. Well maybe 111r's but hey ho.
Those of us lucky enough to have an S1, or early S1, have now suffered the bulk of meaningful depreciation and can go on to enjoy many miles of budget motoring (no pun intended).
The only thing we need to look out for is them darn chassis starting to wear out, but I think unless you drive 'em like Tut every day of the week, you are safe for a few years yet! Indeed, the ones he does drive seem to be breaking everything *except* the chassis so I'm pretty relaxed actually
And in any case...why do you care about the 2nd hand market for them, you are not going to sell it are you. Your kids will be fighting over it in your Will. *

* Mr Brown kindly pushed up IHT threshold to a whopping £350k, I hear. That's a start.
