Actually, I agree completely until anyones safety comes into the picture. I think then, when off the forum chats and advise clearly have not made a difference, we have a responsibility to let others know. If an accident occurs and 20 people come out and say "saw that one coming for a long time" but the innocent party had no way of knowing to be extra cautious, surely we've failed as a community?

C, I wasn't there either. However the overriding vibe on this occasion is that you behaved sightly as you shoulden't, this could be wrong of me to assume this.......I only heard one side and I hav'ent heard your side of the story....perhaps I may or may not want to belive either side at the end of it.... Only you can really answer the alleged accusations.... Its up to you handle this in any way you feel appropriate ,frankly its your call :|

I spoke with 'The Plumber' on the phone earlier today, and this post has affected him. 'Super Mario' is a very laid back character, but sounded upset on the phone. He has read all the comments and took note, doubt he will reply (i wouldn't).

I can't believe this post has been allowed. To have a member of SE singled out and attacked like this, is disappointing and something I thought SE wouldn't stand for. I've even read comments from people that were not there, never met him, never mind witness any dangerous driving (Who's the Muppets ?). Will all complaints of dangerous driving/general dodgyness be dealt with in the same way ? Hope not

King K can't post a picture of a crankshaft on a set of scales without being warned of a ban, how is this acceptable ?

In fear of repeating myself, this will be my last post on this thread.

Alan,

The reason this post was accepted was due to a perceived danger and the actions of one of our members not being acceptable on the public road. I had correspondence with people who were there who absolutely backed up Scotty's post and reasons for posting. There's only so long it can be kept at a personal level before something needs posted IMO. WRT the people commenting who weren't there or don't know the circumstances, I wholeheartedly agree, which is why I was trying to have the post calm down once Scotty had got his point across (which Scotty interpreted as us wanting to sweep it under the carpet) The posts from members not there on the day, or with no personal experience are pointless and just jumping on a bandwagon and if we were more strict on moderation, these would be worthy of removal.

From a moderation standpoint, there's no winning here. This wasn't singling out the member for personal attacks, far from it - there are lots of posts on here saying what a good lad he is. If he's a danger to other road users (and several believe he is - both from this incident and from others in their personal experience) then it does need said. If you want to talk further about the moderation shown on this post, please call - the reasons are very clear. Of course, as a mate of his, your views are coloured, so they may not seem logical to you.

Lot's of bandwagon, soapbox and hypocritical responses.
There's a reason I've not been on SE road runs. Quite frankly they're dangerous. I've been on a few back in the day. I've been on runs where there's been crashes. Runs where there's been a mass Police road block. Runs where my heart has thumped out my chest where I've made a stupid overtake. Rarely is anything below 80mph and when there's 10-15+ brightly coloured plastic toys overtaking pensioners on their weekly jaunt can we expect anything other than Police on our door? So I stopped the mass road runs. I value my driving license and life too much. Don't get me wrong, I've went on a run since but with 1 or 2 max and people/friends I trust. Things are different now. Things are slower but the fun is still there.

What really annoys me is, someone from SE (my friend) had to take evasive action to prevent a huge accident. To be honest, evasive action that could of cost him his life. If Colin was the cause he should hold his hands up and apologise. Whatever story has been portrayed in this thread of what happened I've not listened to. The info I took was from the source. Colin has been blamed in this thread following history of daft driving. Previous one spinning on the dual carriageway to KH. How do you do that?

I really think it should be down to the 2 parties to sort this out and no doubt they will.

To be fair Alan, it was really Colin that singled himself out with his driving.

Yourself and a few others, including me, were aware of it and what the potential consequences were. A few people, including you, had talked to him about it but it never had any impact.

We can all be thankful that it's broken plastic that we're talking about and not something much worse. How would you be feeling if the worst had happened? Would you be taking the same stance?

However it's happened, I hope we have the desired outcome. Hopefully we can all enjoy the group runs for what they are. I'll still go on a run with Colin.

PS: I don' think there was ever any talk of anyone being banned from the forum was there?

I also don't want to prolong this thread any further.

So it’s taken this thread for Colin to UNDERSTAND his actions on a road run. Well that was my point. Like you said Alan, we have both tried to talk to him (and I’m sure other people have as well) and it made no difference to his actions. I for one is glad that this thread has been left to run and hope that there will be a response from Colin. If someone is going to ignore "polite chats" and this is the only way to get it through to them then job done.

Now fellow SE members know what to expect on road runs.

I think Alan's point was that KingK was warned with a ban over in technical for getting a little heated over an engine debate, which turned a little personal, whilst in this thread essentially exists for talking about Colin, but no band have been mentioned.

I appreciate the moderators we have on this site, they each do a great job of keeping things under control. Having moderated forums myself in the past, I understand that you can never please everyone, and if Shug had decided to close the thread, other members would have been upset and commented elsewhere, it's a clear no win situation.

Personally, I think this thread has run it's course now. The only person who can add anything is Colin.
I'd probably be all hot headed and defensive, I completely respect Colin for staying away from that, and for reading the comments posted.

I hope SE road runs can continue as (whilst I've not done many) they are something I really enjoy, and hope we can all take this thread as a warning. If it wasn't Colin, it would have been somebody else.

You are welcome, Colin. I was of course ahead of the happenings and had wondered what was taking you so long!

Welcome back from hols - sort of :-(

As you can see it's all stirred up a lot but since you and ***** are both fine (physically...if not emotionally...) we should move on. I think several people have learned a lot and ARE different as a result (hopefully in positive ways too).

Everyone has had a chance to vent a bit - and Colin, just cos your typing isn't the greatest, doesn't mean you can't vent a little too...get someone to bash it in while you dictate perhaps! But otherwise it's definitely time to put this thread to rest, treat it as both a lesson and also a testimony to the fact that we can hold it together as a community without having to ban people, delete posts, or lock threads (although if the heat gets turned up on Colin again I WILL ask the other mods if they would be prepared to lock this now, as plenty has already been said IMHO).

Nobody's perfect and that's what makes life interesting.

Now...shall we get back to the petrolhead nonsense and other off-topic drivel that makes this a unique Lotus community...?

i think your missing the point, what happened to ***** is one of many incidents.

Ive had about 4 or 5 pm's from fellow SE'rs telling me about colin and different incidents on road run's, but its taken a crash (or this thread) for him to "THINK" about his actions.

What reason do you have for closing this? it will die and fizzle away on its own. But if you lock it we will not be able to coment on it in future when/if things change.
