All this stuff about the 4S being a supreme day to day car, lovely place to sit, practical, quick, refined etc etc.....a C2S does all of this too, believe it or not. And it also handles and steers better into the bargain. Not by massive margins, but better all the same. It's not some edgy track weapon reserved solely for driving Gods....any idiot (ie me!) can hop in and drive a C2S quickly.

And with a set of eBay wheels and michelin winter boots it would also out perform a 4S in wintry weather.

As I've said repeatedly, I love all things Porsche and that includes the C4S. Great car. But the only possible justification I can see for buying one over a 2S is personal preference of the wide body styling, which is fine.

Yes I did,

We were on a run and swapped cars to see how different they were

The cars are very similar to sit in so I drove at the pace I was doing straight away

And the c4s understeered a lot more than I expected

Its a true story Ross

Cheers

Not just Dave (or Gareth), but the majority of 996 owners won't feel the difference regardless of which wheels are driven in normal use, unless really pushing on, and in extreme conditions. The only caveat here is perhaps steering feel, but I can't see either being totally devoid of this either.

I'm an average driver and disagree with this

I disagree as well.................having owned both, I am therefore greater than average :D
Most iterations of 4wd Porkers have understeer unless you whip them briskly into a corner

Less is more.........................exception being the GT3

My old man had a C4S a few years ago (yellow calipers too that used to make alot of noise  ) it would oversteer just fine

(that's why I think Mike will do fine, that and his lack of imagination).

Just drove another 4S......whoooooaaaa it just understeered or oversteered (not sure which, how do you tell?) going round Aberdeen's Haudigain roundabout.
Fear not peeps....I had enough skill to correct it. :D

To all those who were worried sick...

I made it home safely without understeering off the road in a flaming ball of death. :D

Guess there will always be some peeps who don't get it.. but that's fine. If people think the only reason to choose a C4S over a C2 is the body.. fair enough. Not going to waste my time trying to educate folks who aren't actually interested in other points of view really. I look forward to meeting up with all the driving gods again when the decent weather returns to be educated about my wrong decision :D

As far as winter weather goes... quite topical today... my C4S on summer tires has been superb in the snow without the need for a set of ebay wheels and a second set of tires. Almost like another reason I chose it over a 2wd .. but don't let that get in the way of a good argument. I'm the guy that bought the understeery pig with a crap interior remember... :blackeye

Just one small point to clarify things... in the 996 it's a C4S vs a C2. The C2S is a 997 ... but that's another argument for another day.. :P

Whilst I remember though.. I can confirm Mass is genuinely able to find the limits of a car in the first corner !! ...I still have happy memories of going backwards into the tires as his pax when we left the pits and entered duffus one day in his Exige.. :damnfunny (sorry Mass.. you know I still luvs ya!!!)

Cheers!!

Dave.
