Re: Back to talk about muppets again.
I know a fair number of the SE members, maybe not as many as I did a few years ago.. but as one of the band wagon jumpers.. and watchers from afar I can say that this has probably been one of the most worthwhile threads for a long time. We all step beyond the boundaries of what is acceptable.. from time to time. Reality check time for everyone hopefully, not just the individual involved.Scotty C wrote:So it’s taken this thread for Colin to UNDERSTAND his actions on a road run. Well that was my point. Like you said Alan, we have both tried to talk to him (and I’m sure other people have as well) and it made no difference to his actions. I for one is glad that this thread has been left to run and hope that there will be a response from Colin. If someone is going to ignore "polite chats" and this is the only way to get it through to them then job done.
Now fellow SE members know what to expect on road runs.
Well it moves... might as well make the most of it....

I've even read comments from people that were not there, never met him, never mind witness any dangerous driving (Who's the Muppets ?). Will all complaints of dangerous driving/general dodgyness be dealt with in the same way ? Hope not
This isn't a dig at you, but I think this thread was a good thing, as the subjects actions were dangerous and he wasn't responding when friends warned him (I believe you were one of them).
My take on this thread was that his attitude needed to change or there was a risk that people were going to get hurt. Various people put their own experiences on about it. My own experiences weren't to with the recent run but historical ones, so I posted about them.
We all like SE but it doesn't go from being a good place with decent people to a hate filled forum full of bullies at the snap of a finger...
No-one likes being chinned about stuff...but I think there was good cause in this case.
If it still isn't getting through and things don't change I can only suggest that people follow Robins advice and let the Police deal with him. Maybe some time without a driving licence would wake him up. Never thought I'd say that on here.
For what its worth I think the moderation was just about right here.
Re: Back to talk about muppets again.
Have to say IMHO this place is currently subject to the most moderation of any of the forums I regularly use

Welcome back from hols - sort of
As you can see it's all stirred up a lot but since you and ***** are both fine (physically...if not emotionally...) we should move on. I think several people have learned a lot and ARE different as a result (hopefully in positive ways too).
Everyone has had a chance to vent a bit - and Colin, just cos your typing isn't the greatest, doesn't mean you can't vent a little too...get someone to bash it in while you dictate perhaps! But otherwise it's definitely time to put this thread to rest, treat it as both a lesson and also a testimony to the fact that we can hold it together as a community without having to ban people, delete posts, or lock threads (although if the heat gets turned up on Colin again I WILL ask the other mods if they would be prepared to lock this now, as plenty has already been said IMHO).
Nobody's perfect and that's what makes life interesting.
Now...shall we get back to the petrolhead nonsense and other off-topic drivel that makes this a unique Lotus community...?
lol..you can be a right ole fishwife sometimes Campbell!
There's only one person I feel sorry for this...that's ****** who's financially lost out due to someone elses fcuk up

Might be a possibillity that the other driver was driving too close ? not leaving enough space to react. I don't know, wasn't there... got to consider all aspects.

Re: Back to talk about muppets again.
Accept everything apart from that part, that's un fair. The plumber annoys the sh*t out of me, never listens to a word I say (on mechanics of the car or driving). I'm not defending him, this method is un acceptable for any member of S.E (or that's what i'm trying to get accross).Shug wrote: Of course, as a mate of his, your views are coloured, so they may not seem logical to you.
I would have said the same thing for anyone, even Gareth.

No I wasn't there. Rhetorical question?!
As I said, spoke to the other party. Not some dude on SE but a friend I've known for 5/6 years.
OK, bored now.

Lovely sunny day outside, just about to take the dogs out to chase rabbits, maybe ducks, or occasionally they put a deer up and that really knackers them as they never catch it.

Re: Back to talk about muppets again.
Been following the thread and have to say it's putting me off going on runs:-( met the plumber once for a short run and he seemed nice enough. His car is significantly faster than most cars on the forum so I'd imagine it's easy to get oneself in a spot of bother with something so fast. I wasn't there so won't make assumptions about things I havnt witnessed. Just wanted to say that this thread could paint Scottish elises in a bad light to the casual observer or potential member. I'm relatively new so don't know everybody but Alan has my respect for standing up for the plumber. I for one would find it difficult to stand up for myself after so much had been said.
Re: Back to talk about muppets again.
Lets just draw a line under this.
What's not been said is anything negative about "The Plumber" as a person - in fact, posters have mentioned he's a really nice guy several times - that's very important to note. Also, it's not about speed or skill, it was always about some things done on runs that this member attended which did not fit with what was acceptable on the public road or on an SE run. From posts in here, it's also not been about one specific incident, more the issue with the member in question ignoring polite 'words' about how he drove in group.
From the POV of a new member, or anyone wanting to become a member, I think it important to point out that this was a last resort for a specific member (the original poster) who had had enough of what he saw as unacceptable or dangerous behaviour being ignored. It's not a minor matter.
It's a very important point to note that (despite some members peronal misgivings) the vast majority of runs organised through the SE forum have gone without hitch and driving standards are important. This doesn't mean everyone is mega-fast or mega-steady, this means there is an acceptance of differing levels of skill and desire to go at different rates and people don't act in a dangerous manner. All that's asked is people are honest, don't take risks and drive well within their comfort zone. There is a very comprehensive post in the Meets section about the run etiquette - which is well worth a read as 99% of runs I've been on have been run with it very much in mind.
With all that said, everything that can be covered by this thread has been and any more posting on it wouldn't serve a lot of point other than picking the scab, no?
