They will have some for hire on the day.

If you are planning the full series though it would be best to buy

Not sure how competitive an ex-Academy Caterham might be in Class D - say 540kg maybe, 15kg of fuel plus me at 50kg, say 600kg, with maybe around 110whp (120bhp ish at the flywheel)...
When the SuperGrads last visited KH in 2004, they were putting in mid 61's, with a best of 61.24 (even I managed a 62.44, and I'm cr*p  ).

This was on Avon CR500's - Which are on MSA list 1B.

Knockhill has changed slightly since then, with flatter kerbs and some parts widened - It's probably around the thick end of a second quicker in a SuperGrad these days.

The Grad series also switched to Yokohama A048R's in 2005 (On list 1B too), and lap times fell very slightly on all tracks.

Taking all of the above into account, there's potential for a low to mid 60 lap in your car - Maybe even getting near to a high 59?

I'd think that'd be quite competitive in Class D... :?:

The kerbs may be wider now, but they have those huge MSA sausage kerbs which limit the safe cutting of kerbs. Compared to 2010 I think the laps are slightly slower now.

Stop Press, as well as the MSA scrutineer present from 2.30pm to 4pm on Sunday, we will have scales available to weigh any SLS car (and driver!) at the Hot Hatch. So come along and chat about the championship, get a registration form, club membership form and the entry form for the first event too!
if you want more info and a wee face to face chat with KMSC head along to Knockhill :) free entry.

But Ross is talking about 2004 - the track has been widened significantly on the front straight and all sorts of changes since then - sure the recent sausage kerbs limit cutting, but we're not talking 2010 versus now, we're talking 2004 versus now. It's a faster track now than in 2004, no doubt at all.

For those interested in Super Lap Scotland (SLS)... £50 for a rolling road run and weigh to calculate your (wheel) power to weight for correct SLS classification.

I have had a couple of e-mails from Stuart Grey in the past few days. There was a fair amount of interest on here when it was first muted, so for anyone who is planning to go ahead, it would be a good time to apply for their licence, join the KMSC, and send in an entry form.

Most of you have a good idea which Class you will be in without a R/R check yet, and you are not committed until the series starts. He would like an idea of numbers, so a good time to decide whether you are likely to be going ahead or not.

Adam is organising it and already has a table laid out of entrants, but only Dave Long from here is on at present. Here is the original post with links in it to the others.

Hi tut

Hope you are well?

I write to let you of a new track drivers championship that is starting this year, aimed directly at owners of performance road and modified cars. It is Super Lap Scotland, an MSA permitted event that finds the fastest drivers in Scotland, on a power to weight class structure, in a track day format. Drivers will get three 20 minute sessions with official timing, with the fastest 5 from each class going to the single flying Super Lap at the end of the day. All that is required is a fast road / modified car, MSA approved helmet / suit / gloves and the MSA licence can be applied for on the day of an event. It’s a mid way between a normal track day format and racing. See these links for more info;

http://www.facebook.com/SuperlapScotland?ref=hl

http://www.superlapscotland.co.uk

I thought a number of your serious drivers might want to take part in a competitive event in their own car, without the rigours, admin and format of full blown racing. With the class structure on a power to weight format, it will allow a wide variety of cars to enter, but they will be equalized through their power to weight.

If you want to find out more, please do given me or Gemma a call. First events are on May 25th / 26th.

Regards

Stuart

Hi tut

SLS is EASY MOTORSPORT!! We are following Stelios’s model of business. If you have a road car, either standard or with modest modifications, all you need is personal safety gear (Suit / helmet / boots / gloves), join the KMSC, apply for a NON Race National B (£42), and enter!!

The extreme cars are caught under the sports / libre MSA class definitions, so the likes of your engine swap Elise can enter if it’s a road car, if its not a road car as above, you need a National A Race or Speed Licence.

Hope that is clear, but essentially all your drivers can enter with little or no effort.

Stuart

New Knockhill "Time Attack lite" series for trackdayers

Post by Scottish Scrutineer » Mon Mar 18, 2013 1:22 pm

If anyone wants to check the weight of their car, I'll be at the Knockhill track day this Sunday from about 2pm with the scales set up in the scrutineering bay.

Just had another mail from Stuart explaining the new "Sports Libre"

Hi tut

GREAT! See clarifications below for the different level of mods and resultant licence required.

You just need to wear full MSA approved safety gear, join the club, enter and get your Nat non Race B on the day and your on!! ALL of your guys could enter and do well, so still keen to see the first Lotus enter, its perfect for them all.

Regards

Stuart

Just to clarify the technical / licence criteria;

Road-Going Series Production = Mass produced unmodified road cars
Road-Going Specialist Production = Limited production unmodified road cars
Modified Series Production = Mass produced cars which have been modified within the provisions of S.12. These cars must have MSA compliant roll cages and 4-point harnesses.
Modified Specialist Production = Limited produced cars which have been modified within the provisions of S.12. These cars must have MSA compliant roll cages and 4-point harnesses.
All of the above just require a non-race Nat B licence.

Sports Libre = Any other car not complying with the above (e.g. cars with replacement engines and/or high level aerodynamic devices etc.). If over 2000cc or 1428cc with forced induction these cars MUST compete in a road-legal condition (with associated tax/registration/MOT etc.) if the driver wishes to compete on a non-race Nat B licence. Non-road legal Sports Libre cars require the driver to hold either a Speed Nat A Open (8 non-race sprint event signatures) or Race Nat A licence (ARDS course PLUS 6 SIGNATURES).

So to summarise, a driver may compete on a non-race licence if their car is either fully road legal or complies with the regulations for Production (S.11) or Modified Cars (S.12). Otherwise they will need a Nat. A licence which will require them to finish a minimum of 6 races or 8 speed events before they can enter SLS.
