Re: This missing plane..
The Telegraph's transcript showed routine communications, ending with the fateful final words of co-pilot Fariq Abdul Hamid: "All right, good night."
Completely the wrong response. It should have been "ok(roger for the old timers)change to Ho Chi Minh on 120.9. Good night KL" Instructions should always be read back, most importantly for FL's. His casual reply to me reads as I have no intention of calling Ho Chi Minh ATC.

Maybe holding a vote is in poor taste, but in my view, no worse than the thread itself. No matter folks' knowledgeable backgrounds, this thread is nothing more than speculation
If the thread's permited (and I think it should be, as it's natural for people to comment and speculate on matters such as this) then the poll should also be allowed.
Re: This missing plane..
I'd tend to agree Scott.
Awful as the whole situation is, it's a natural human reaction to discuss matters like these, as it creates fascination.

Re: This missing plane..
It creates intense annoyance with me, from the moment that they knew things had gone wrong they should have sprung into action.
They knew it had turned West so should have been straight onto the next Control area to warn them of what was happening. They have F18's and Sukhoi 30's, both of them Mach 2 aircraft which could have been alongside in no time at all, that is if they could have woken the pilots up and presuming that they then could have found the aircraft.
From there they seemed to have gone down hill even further until the World Wide search machine took over, and although they have found nothing yet, they would have been given a much smaller area to search if the Malaysian authorities had handled it professionally and acted as they should have done from the start.

Re: This missing plane..
I was expressing a personal opinion not moderating (that would have been in blue). The vote and thread are 'allowed'.
Speculation is pointless but harmless subject to it being sensible.. The vote trivialises the situation. Clearly this is subjective and others will feel differently.

Understood Robin, so wrong choice of word on my part.
I just wanted the opposing viewpoint noted, before there was a clamour to have the poll removed.
I haven't voted as, as you say, speculation is pointless.

Interesting article in the Guardian from a pilot & cabin crew.

Re: This missing plane..
I like the fact that the news story felt it necessary to include a picture of a pilot. Just in case we didn't know what a pilot might look like....
Re: This missing plane..
Some of the reporting/press statements are really getting more and more ludicrous;
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-26716572
Malaysia says "missing plane is lost". Sixteen days its taken them to come to that conclusion. I thought I had stumbled onto the daily mash website when I read that headline.

Re: This missing plane..
It has not yet been confirmed that the debris found is from MH370. Until a ship gets there to identify it, it is just probability, so as Dom says, they are making a statement that could have been put out days ago when there was no chance that it had landed anywhere.
If it is MH370, then the water depth there could be 15,000ft or more, so until/if ever they finally recover the data and voice recorders, and they need both, they will have no more idea as to what happened than they do now.

Re: This missing plane..
Quote from bbc in last hour;
Malaysia's prime minister has announced that missing flight MH370 crashed in the southern Indian Ocean.
Najib Razak said this was the conclusion of fresh analysis of satellite data tracking the flight.
Malaysia Airlines had told the families of the 239 people on board, he said.
Earlier the BBC saw a text message sent to families by the airline saying it had to be assumed "beyond reasonable doubt" that the plane was lost and there were no survivors.
It's been reported that Malaysian airlines have sent a text message to each of the families involved. Am I the only one who thinks that expecting a company like that to at least have the courtesy to call one member of each family personally isn't exactly asking too much? I do get that there may be a slight lag as 239 phone calls are made but it still strikes me as somewhat insensitive!

That doesn't surprise me.
Have you been to KL? Nothing much works there properly. Organisation and customer service is not a Malaysian strong point.
