Broken elbow for my Mum yesterday, drove to Bearsden Cross to get milk assuming they (council, shop keepers, anyone) might have gritted outside the shops.

Left crying on the pavement and had to pick herself as ppl walked past, get back to her car and get a taxi to A&E for 4 hours. :rage

Is there much difference in performance between snow tyre brands? Thinking of going for either the Kumho or Toyo as not really wanting to spend a fortune on them. 205/45/16 come in about £80 per tyre from MyTyres.

I have Dunlop SP wintersport 3D on my car, they are very good and not expensive ( at least here in Holland) :thumbsup
lots of grip, last long and no excessive noise

Bob, your highest mountain is 2 feet ASL, why would you need winter tyres?

Got stuck for the first time last night in the work carpark :(

Ended up using a block of wood under the back wheel, turning the rear road wheel by hand and moving the block to stop it rolling back once I had moved it a foot or so I was able to drive off.

THis morning I have salted 2 big stripes coming from the rear wheels to the road :D

:withstupid
Stuck at the house yesterday morning trying to manouevre the Mini out the drive. It tokk me 3/4 hour to extract it to the safety of the main road. :!:
Hard packed snow and ice with 6" of soft snow followed by another 3 to 4" last night. Thankfully the missus cleared enough space to turn the car yesterday and I left it facing out the drive last night.

This is the worst I've seen conditions for a long time and even the main roads are proving a challenge first thing in the morning.

340r is safely tucked up in the garage not that I could get it out anyway. Had it out on Boxing day, not really the weather for it but the LSD makes a big difference and I got as far as Pitcaple where I stopped to take some photos. I then slipped, fell on my back and broke my ribs on a rock sticking through the ice. Not very clever but my reinforced arms survived the fall although badly bruised! I'll let go of the camera next time.

Happy New Year and all the best for 2010 to everyone.

:cheers
Brian
