I have a paid off '03 plate VX220. It's probably worth 11k cos of the miles ive got on it. So this puts me in a similar position to some of you S1 boys.

When i looked at changing to Robin's (?) orange S2 i was looking at £16k PLUS my VX to change. To get a SC elise i'm now looking at £22k plus my car.

I know you always pay a premium for a brand new car, but even with the first year or so of depreciation i can't (and not sure i'll ever be able to) justify getting a new Lotus.

They can tweak the elise / exige all they want but it's not different enough to warrant me changing from my nicely set up VX.

EDIT : I should say this is a genuine quandry - not a "if i had the money" thing
I would really love an 08 Exige with the 240 upgrade, but for me the cost to change is also just too high to justify, especially as I have just soaked up a terrifying amount of depreciation having bought my current Exige new a couple of years back  . Also just spent several grand on skydiving gear which don't help :? But then again, what is money for if it is not for buying new toys :)

The spoiler is very S1 111s! Not sure about it on an S2, but I think it's a grower. The car needs something subtle (unless I'm missing it) at the front to make it stand out.

The wheels are very retro '60's IMHO, and quite cool. Think they would be better in black.

err... I'd get a year old Exige S instead, and get a soft top conversion if really necessary.

Looks cooler and saves cash.

The wheels are *very* similar to those on the new Fiat Punto Abarth...

:withstupid

Couldn't face the initial £10k in 1 year depreciation.

Its bugly also - that car should have been launched 2/3 years ago, and before they started gay-ing it up with all the US spec tat.

My new car appreciates when i pick it up :D

The spoiler is horrid, as are the alloys. The price isn't bad (my 111R was 32k with the touring pack and "lifestyle" paint), but I'm not keen on adding another £1k for air-con, which I consider to be essential on a mid-engined car.

Are there any comfier seats than those crappy pro-bax ones I have? I sat on decent ones in an Exige S before.

Not so much that, more the rubbish muggy or cold weather we get and inevitably mists yer windscreen up. Both sports cars I've owned have done that, and when the aircon packed in it was a pain in the arse! :P

I reckon the spoiler would look better on a darker colour. They really should have the hard top off in the press shots to distance it a bit from the Exige.

I like the spoiler (no surprises there then), but not the wheels. The whole package looks a bit lardy. Probably isn't far off 1000kg.

Air-con on an Elise is gayer than a handbag full of rainbows!
