Given the fact he's only 22 i think the way Hamilton has handled himself through a remarkably trying season, with the chaos of having the british media on his back is exceptional.
i think he's been great for F1 this year. (and good to have a new GB interest)

I know of one other personality who is not even on the list but should be!
This guy is a true gentleman and personality who although now races in the states has never forgotten his roots.
This years accolades include , winner of the biggest race in the world Indy 500, also became the IRL champion.
Dario Franchitti gets my vote.

Lewis Hamilton, on basis he's the only one I've heard talk this year so the only personality I can assess!
But if you saw him on Top Gear this week you may also accept he has the humility and humour to see things through.
For an island nation of ~60m people, we deserve to identify those who make the strongest mark on the global sporting scene, IMHO. Again I think Lewis did that this year. Haven't heard of half the rest of them.
