Must admit that a Subaru Legacy Spec B would be a good form of transport but may drink a little too much juice :D

Noticed on the web site that they do cater for LPG conversions on the new cars as an official conversion.

I like the Scooby Legacy, but no diesel version is available yet and the petrol engines drink fuel, especially the 2.5. My mother has a 2.5 Legacy which was totally reliable until earlier this year when it had HGF at only 60k miles - very bad news as the boxer engine means its four figure engine out job to fix

Ooops, so much for Subaru reliability record in their JD survey then :(

Also on the Jap front you could always try a Mitsubishi Lancer estate. Ok the quality of the cabin is terrible, not the most exciting looking (well pretty uninspiring to be exact) but much cheapness.

Only problem is that it will depreciate as quickly as an Evo accelerates to 100 tuts.

I'd have to go with an older Mercedes E class estate dont know what MPG you'd get out of a diesel one but my "91" 3Ltr petrol one always gave me 350 miles+ on a 71 liter tank whether it was fully loaded roof box, 2 bikes and family or not, although I did use it mainly for family outings. I dont want to know what you'd get around town

most genuine mercedes service parts (brakes and filters)are cheaper than genuine peugeot one's for her car even the 106

also lots of genuine parts from euro car parts or GFS car parts @massive savings

Avoid 95-99 (if I remember correctly) on the second generation ones as the paint work sucked

That is an interesting option I hadn't considered at all - will definitely look into it further. Cheers!

Get the mondeo. My rep mobil has just turned 70k and due for a change in June. Absolutely bullet proof reliability although it did need some rear sub frame bushes. That was probably brought about by a combination of my enthusiastic driving style and a job that sees me driving up farm roads every other day.
Don't worry about the image. You can console yourself laughing at the drivers of the german rep mobils who have wasted so much money on their load luggers that they can't afford a silly little plastic car.
In all seriousness, you already drive a focus and I am sure if you have a shot of a reasonably low mileage mondeo you would be hard pushed to find a better car in it's class, plus you will get 6-speed box, quick clear windscreen, ac, cruise control and electric everything. 45-50mpg depending on the model.

P.S.
I am gutted as they have taken Ford off of our company car lists or any other Ford owned company.

Octavia vRS is available as an estate.

Mk 1 - petrol 180bhp engine only as per entry level Audi TT, A4 1.8T etc.

Mk 2 - petrol 200bhp engine as per Golf Gti or 170bhp diesel as per Leon FR, Golf GT etc.

Had we the cash, a Mk 2 Octavia vRS diesel estate - in blue - would probably already be on our driveway. But we like our Mk4 Golf Gti TDI 150 toooo much (can you believe!). Oh and we're one-salary family until Lisa gets her a*se back to work in May. So our solution was a roofbox, closely resembling Darth Vader's gloss black coffin ;-)
