Not sure, did hae a couple of nasty malware thingies that I managed to remove although even with a stack of anti virus, firewalls and anti malware software its now grinding to a halt. Needs a clear out and cleared of all remaining dodgy stuff.steve_weegie wrote:Sure, riddled with what exactly? Now it is my turn to beg for some help.
My PC keeps switching itself off.
I have checked the power settings and everything seems fine there it's set to "always on" but after an hour or so if just switches off, inside all the LAN lights are on but to fire the machine back up you have to pull out the power cord and switch off at the back then puck back in switch on and off you go.
at first I thought that a fan had failed and it was all over heating but they are all working.
any idea's ?
no it's not the screensaver

Boot it into the BIOS and check that all the power saving crap in the BIOS is turned off.
Remember also you can name the power setting profiles anything you like, so "Always on" could still have "suspend after 1 hour" - you need to check the actual settings rather than just which profile it's on. Generally it should say "never" next to each of the options ...
Cheers,
Robin

I've had the the very same problem, but could be after 10 minutes or hours. Turned out that the RAM was to blame. Try reseating the memory and see if that helps.BiggestNizzy wrote:but to fire the machine back up you have to pull out the power cord and switch off at the back then puck back in switch on and off you go.

No, No! not Bloke. It's pronounced Black, as in Plaque

10p says its an AMD machine.... They dont thermal throttle like the intel chips so when they overheat, the motherboard just panics and kills the power...BiggestNizzy wrote:Had a poke aqround the bios and couldn't find anything out of the ordinary although now I am tempted to overclock it
i removed all the fans and cleaned them out and now the CPU is keeping cool problem solved

You in Haddington? I am just down the road in East Saltoun.
Good roads out of east saulton - up to gifford then back down the cockles to haddington is still one of my faves! How long you out east for? I'll be kicking around haddington on friday evening or we can catch up sometime back west if you like?

One of the guys on the vx site had a bash at the water cooled idea, so he fitted a radiator from a Honda civic

Loving his work
It would work better if he ran a fan on the rad and a compressor as the current setup will only allow it to run at room temp. he could try running it on meths fitting an expansion valve and a compressor, it wouldn't work as well as a refrigeration gas (you need to be qualified for that& R22 is good) but should work enough.
rad would be high pressure side, case would be low pressure side
It may frost up that could be a problem
I have taken that to far haven't I ?
