So let me get this right. If you put a set of cams in, properly time them with verneers, fit manifold, decat and sliencer it can run about 160bhp on the std ecu. Fit an emerald or Daztek uni chip and set it up on a r/r and it'll give a solid 160bhp?? This seems so easy. Why do folk bother porting heads then if it turns them into cheeze and you can get almost the same power from the above mods?? I'll read that link about heads later, cba tonight :D

Shug,

Sounds like a monster! What will remain of the old engine? (/Pikey...:thumbsup)

I assume you are doing the work DIY? If you are in need of someone to hold a torch or pass you (wrong) spanners then give me a shout, I'm normally bored senceless every other weekend. I even have my own hammer!

Gordon,

I have read that article several times now, keep finding things. Apparently around 2000 the head castings suffer from the porosity probs. Implys that pre-2000 would be ok for some attention.

More is more, innit?

Don't know the percentages, but certainly it's not the case that every head ported goes at some stage. Lorne Mason has been running 210bhp on a home-build 1.8K for years (over 5) Some you win, some you lose.

Heh, I'll keep you posted. The top-secret facility that it's being done in is a bit secret squirrel, so I'd have to check with the owner if he was cool with more than just me turning up.

Thanks for the offer though 8)

Received my Annual letter from the AA today. Not Membership renewal which we all get, but pointing out that I have had four call outs already in this subscription year. Better than the last on though when they waited until I had six. Also that I am on my fourth parts an warranty claim, which is bloody good of them as you are only allowed three.

Good old AA.
