Gutted for you Pete.

Ali was beside himself when he opened the box - i was up showing him how to operate his new card reader.

He was hoping to have a solution for you though, so hope it works out. :thumbsup

mine was off the road in 2006 for 10 weeks during what has to be the best summer this decade - was gutted

Pete,
Feeling your pain - I was Lotusless a couple of years ago for 5 months, you reach the point where you don't want the thing back , BUT hang on in there when you finally get back behind the wheel you will be like a dog with two tails

Thanks for the moral support.

Not the first time me either, 5 months in 2001.

I'll believe a solution when I see it.

I saw your head when I was dropping Ali's sat nav back to him today and holly cow the whole corner has snapped off, and that's after being hardness tested so it was hard?? Ali was absolutely gutted and on the phone trying to sort it out when I got there...

Pete's car is an S2 111s so needs a VVC head or EU3 engine if anyone can help? I'm also lotusless as my new engine has also had a VVC failure so I can't help either, so sorry for you mate as this is the last thing you need.

It's taken time as the bottom end was also away being rebuilt by another company and that also had issues so one thing has led to another and another and another... If there is anything I can do at all to help Pete please let me know :(

Lets hope it's not a drawn out process getting it all sorted and maybe someone can help with an engine until yours is back???

All the best

Feel for you, I was Lotusless for 5-6 months last year whilst Ali sourced me an engine and reassembled various parts including the suspension...

Good luck with it all!

Mark, genuine question - why would you be telling Pete what is wrong with his car and what the situation is, and not the garage owner? I am bored of reading posts and posts in a "speaking on behalf of" style..... and instant recommendation of said garage when its not perhaps the best answer to the question.

There is obviously something not quite right here, and a recurring theme of comically long lead-times experienced by people, and constant murmurs of how long it takes to fix cars.

Thats before we even get on to discussing the shoddy bolting together of actual car bits that I had to put up with.

I have been on the receiving end of this comedy service, and it seems that more and more members here have also, yet nobody seems to want to say what the problem is? I didnt make a song and dance at the time as eventually it got sorted out, but that was more down to the way I am rather than any inclination to sort out the situation at the garage end.

I couldnt really give a monkeys who people use to fix cars, but when you ask people a direct question relating to their original post as I did earlier in this thread and they dont answer, it does point to something stopping people from saying what they really think.

Im with JJ on this im afraid.

i have wrote a number of things in this reply and deleted then started again - several times.
but really all i want to say is, SE is open to everyones opinion. There will always be people praising a business that has provided a good service. in the same light, if a bad service has been received then we are all within our right to speak up about it... i never hear anyone hold back when it comes to MMC so why any other place?

I dont know the story behind Pete's 'lotuslessness' but whatever has happened, it is really not good service - thats before any courier mishaps, as that has only really happened over the past few days.

anyway, Pete, i hope you get her back on the road soon

JJ, genuine answer... I would be telling him what I know and I'm sure Ali would have already done so as Pete has posted on here what was going on so he didn't hear it from me, I just stated what I saw! Why should I not tell him what I know anyhow? Besides any thumbs up I give SLS is purely based on my experience which has always been good and as such I am happy to recomend them and will continue to do so. It seems you think I shouldn't recomend a garage that has always given me good service? I don't understand that! Also if someone asked a question on here that you knew the answer to you'd not post up the answer :? Why would recomending SLS not be the answer to anyone with Lotus trouble in the area when my experience has been possitive?

You say your experience was negative and that's fine I'm not complaining about you stating that, your entitled to post your views and like everywhere you will get both positive and negative feedback, that's OK. We are here to support each other as such should let others know whats going on and what our experiences have been, positve and negative, that's the idea of these forums, to help others in a similar situation! Nobody is stopping you airing your views so why moan about me sharing mine regarding my positive experiences? This seems a tad petty and I'm not one bit interested in getting into a slagging match or a he said she said situation so I am just going to butt out and let you get on with it

Sorry folks

Mark

Mark, your only trying to be helpfull as far as I can see, as you were when I had my troubles, so dont take this as a critisism in any way of yourself, what you do on his behalf is invaluable for his current customers. You should now though be aware that certainly in this case you are seen as "Ali's voice" on the forum and any issues that people have with Ali, by default they may end up (through no fault of your own) having issue with you. I think your a top bloke, just be careful not to get tarred with someone elses brush. And in the same token, there are other top blokes who for the best of intentions have been associated with SLS also at risk of getting tarred by the same brush to a greater or lesser degree..

Now my own story....

I must say that I now know of several people.. i.e. getting on for a dozen.. who have had shocking service from Ali. I personnaly believe that I have been lied to on several occasions as to the reasons why my repair took soo long,(some of these I have verified by speaking to independant persons who confirmed my suspisions). His defence was that I asked for extra bits to be done, well yes but only because he was going to have the car for additional weeks due to some other delay, I dont trust him, he almost cost me an additional £475 when he failed to sort out the AA issue. Just completly unprofessional in my opinion.

Examples, he had the car for six months, I was told the head had been sent away within a week of him recieving the car, the car was still sitting at his house (verified by third party). Two weeks later the car was spotted at his garage, how did he get it there? on a trailer.... I suspect it was driven. The car was spotted at the workshop by another individual and the engine looked to be still in one piece. Three months later I am told the head had been machined and it was on its way back to him. The following week I am told the head is scrap and cant be machined. :? I have been in touch now with Sabre heads and I have been told that he remembers the head, and he informed Ali that it was scrap the day it arrived... so thats over three months to take a head off the car and send it away. I believe I was lied to from day one. The head arrived back and he rebuilds the engine but he cant time the cams.. a self proclaimed Lotus specialist who cant set up the timing on a set of verniers (Ali had told me he could do this himself). Robin had to dig him out of the sh*t on this one for which I am eternally grateful.

Next thing he attempts to fit new AP racing disks to the front end of the car. They dont fit. These are disks that have been batch produced and are fitted to several cars already. At this point blames the new disks. The disks and uprights are sent to Elise parts (I understand at my expense) for them to build up and they find the fault straight away. Wheel bearing colapsed puting the hub out of alignment. I had been in contact with Elise parts about the problem prior to them recieving the bits and they phoned me when they arrived. Now you could claim as some have done that there was a problem with the disks and that Eliseparts are being dishonest, but with the previous head experiance, I know who I am going to believe. I was told by Elise parts that it was obvious apparently. New bearings fitted and the brakes worked fine. Geary built them up himself and they were perfect with the new bearings fitted.

If that aint bad enough he had switches to fit for the lights,(which I supplied) and a new header tank (which I supplied) and a clutch brace (which I supplied).. on the morning that I turned up to collect the car(bear in mind he has had these parts for months), he was frantically trying to fit the switches.. the header tank was not done, and the clutch plate was not done (and has never been seen again)

Sorry, I've kept my mouth shut on this too long, now the same thing has happened again to another member of SE, I didnt want to say anything for fear of upsetting the establishment. In my opinion he's a bloody cowbow who turns out shody work and has been protected against ctitisism by some of the mods on here who are quick to jump on anyone who moans about it.

P.S. Gareth, now I've said my peice, I know you were pissed that I didnt do it before, so thats it sorted now then..

edited several times because I cant spell for peanuts...
