So they are spending millions to improve junctions that cause accidents and installing scameras to pay for it

Is there nothing we can do about this kind of thing?! I thought the government said recently there would be no more cameras? Honestly I'd even write to my MP if I thought it would help :?

P.S. interesting that DC Thompsons suddenly became pro speed cameras in tone after the Tayside Safety Camera Partnership took out a few full page ads in the Courier (and probably the Tele too).

Had mine on for the MOT, it was awful! I like how u've left some remnants of the white sticky tabs for that 'recently ripped of by a speed bump / Pheasant / firm grip' look! :thumbsup

#Option iv)
Learn the back roads, tell people that you have turned over a new leaf and will be driving more sensibly in future so you have an excuse for being 40 mins late ( because of said detour and and high speed blat through that twist bit after the farm house etc etc....)
Well it moves... might as well make the most of it....

Wouldn't do any good. The council would say they were fitting the scameras to protect the lives of the people working on the road. Hard to argue against that without seeming callous. :? :?

Surely they have to publish when they go live before they actually switch em on?

I went through it today at around lunch time. No signs up yet so I presume that they aren't "live" yet. Still didn't take any chances. What annoys me is that the roadworks at the moment only last for less than half a mile and are well off the carriageway. I seem to recall that they did something similar on the Forfar road, just without the specs.
Anyway it has worked. Only one car passed me with everyone else strictly observing the speed limit.
Not that big an issue, I still got to where I was going on time and perhaps slightly less stressed 8)
Cheers

A90 SPECS

I went through these on Sat morning at about 7 o'clock. No roadworks, no cones, no contra flow. I didn't slow down as I had no idea that the cameras were active, and as there were no works ongoing. If I am penalised, can I appeal against it ?. I mean what's the point in everyone trawling along at 40 when there's no safety reason to do so ?. Also, don't they have to advertise the fact that there are active cameras in operation that work on average speed ?. Otherwise surely this is as bad as the old ploy of hiding Gatsos behind signs ?

Were there speed limit signs?

If so that would be the limit in force, whether there was cones etc or not. Though you may have grounds for complaint as to why the speed restriction was there if there was no 'reason' for it.

As for advertising live speed cameras, I'm not aware that they have to be 'advertised'. But on the M77 road-works there are signs saying they are average speed cameras, and this was widely reported in the media before they went live and the works started. I'm not aware of similar reports for the A90, so I would hope they are not live yet.

Oh and Welcome to the Forum.

Thanks. The 40 signs were up but I still think it's crap if they penalise me. If the reason for the restirction is to protect the road workers and no other reason then surely if there are no road workers anywhere remotely near the place then I have a good case. I already have 3 points from a similarly pointless application of the law and if I get another 3 I wont be taking it lightly. I hate the fact that common sense doesn't seem to prevail and that everyone is treated like a sheep.

I agree, if the speed restriction is for safety, then not many will argue against it. But if there is nobody working and no work being done then there is no need for the restriction.

Were the 40mph limit signs repeated every 200 (ish) yards? Because for the restriction to be legal the signs have to be repeated at regular intervals. I can't remeber what the exact distance is but I think it may be 200 yards..Would be worth checking..

Not sure qabout the sign locations, will check on way back up tonight (at 40). However, surely they have to advertise that there are speed cameras operating ?. This has been the case on other roadworks. Let's face it, the cameras are there as a deterent, to ensure that the limit is adhered to, however if they do not advertise the fact that there are cameras (yes I know they're bloody obvious but they could be traffic flow cameras rather than speed cameras) then they are being used blatantly as a revenue generator. I'll be waiting for the post to arrive for the next couple of weeks with bated breath!!
