I just think they'll become a bit of a 'cult' thing, along the lines of the Karmann Ghia (which, in my view, is stunning to look at, sh*t to drive).

The Corrado's not a bad drive, the engine's, in my view, not too bad, but it is a heavy lump stuck over the driven wheels.

I just think it's the definitive 90s coupe, less off the wall than the Fiat Coupe, better to drive than the Alfa GTV (and better built). It looks quite classy and the Storm model is a bit of a rarity.

(I don't remember the TG piece)

Did think about the 306 Rallye after i posted, only 500 made all those years ago, can't be many left now.

Completely Standard numbered "original" Caterham Superlight.
Couldnt believe I bought mine for £13900, ran it for 3 years, a few trackdays each year and over 10k miles, and sold it for £15000.

Also, agree with TVR Griffith 500. They actually are increasing in value already from their low(est) point of around 2002-2004. Again, bought mine for £10k, ran for a year and sold for £11.5k.

Conversely,
Lotus Elise 2002 - bought at 10month old for £24k in 2003. Ran for 15 months and 10,000 miles, and sold for £15,600.

GregR wrote:That's two mentions for a Corrado VR6, interesting :) IIRC the 'storm' was the last one they built with some extra bits n bobs on it wasn't it? Grey leather as standard and midnight blue paint.

I remember a piece on TG a few years back where the Hamster recommended the 190E Cos and the VR6 Corrado - is this why you guys think Corrados are worth including or is there another reason? Excuse my cynisism, but I had a VR6 car in the past and I didn't think it was all that. Still, an engine alone maketh not the car ;)
Yeah, Storm was a run-out model, either in blue or green, fully loaded with leather and some nice BBS'. I don't remember the TG piece either, I've just always lusted after one. Storm must have been released when I was 14 or 15 and it just seemed so cool. A 2.9 litre engine in a car that size was silly and they sounded amazing :love (even if ultimately they weren't that fast).
I've never driven one though so I mentioned it only due to the fact that I've always loved them, and that anything with a VW badge also seems to have a higher chance of becoming a 'cult' car too due to fanatical levels of brand loyalty.

Contrast that with the guy who could have bought it for £22k in 2002, ran it for 7 years and sold it for £17-18k in 2009

a BMW E36 M3 as they are currently very cheap so are a ned magnet

So while they improve them and then chuck them through hedges you keep it standard and unhedged

Once they have destroyed 95% of them you have a rare car
Landrover 90 = Muddy shed spec
Fiat panda = Couldn't care less spec
Landrover ?? = Muddy shrek spec
Unimog 404S = Very slow silly offroader spec
Kubota F1900 = Snowplough spec

Instead of Corrado Storm, how about a Mk1 Scirrocco Storm?

Mk2 golf gti / rallye

Dare I also mention the Lotus Carlton, which still graces my dream garage :D (still shudder to think if I had grown big enuff kajonis and actually bought one but did enough homework to scare me a mile off...)

Toyota corolla coupe (the RWD one when the rest of the range was FWD)

UK Spec DC2 Integra's will probably climb a bit in value.

306 Rallye wasn't special enough to command a large premium over a -6 IMO, but both 106 rallye's are doing well in residual terms. I probably sold mine at the low point a few years ago.

CSL. :thumbsup

Any TVR engined TVR. :love

Problem with the UK DC2 is finding a good one, they all seem to rusting, and if not you are paying way over a import prices for a clean car.

Ideal legendary car investment if you do find one then. When I looked 5 years or so ago, the rust was starting on DC2's then. :(

There is a 'used' example sitting in a village near me rotting to death, trying to get a hold of the owner to buy it off him.
