Jen has one and I hate it, Yes it can do everything but you have to be plugged into the fecking mains at all times to be able to use them. Phones not very clear and the camera is terrible, ask Jen she has a photo of Kevin Mcwhatubob of Gran Designs. The photo is so fuzzy it could be anyone/thing standing beside her.

I have a Blackberry which I like. The screen is a bit smaller but at least your not plugged into the mains every 4 hrs.

do you drop phones ?
I'm the same - only i use a windows mobile as personal phone. The BB is brilliant as a work / email device but i think as a personal device it is outshone by the more "yoof" new handsets
Focus ST estate, i3s and more pushbikes than strictly necessary.

....did i ever tell you about the Evora and VX220 i used to own?

Scotty, I have the Bold for work and the iphone as a personal phone. The bold is a really good work tool, I particularly like the e-mail client...but I prefer the Iphone for everything else, it has a bigger screen, easier in the pocket...just works well.

Just get a music dock for it and shove it on charge every night.

Cheers, Peter

I haven't. Says it all IMO, iPhone is the danglies.
Yup, me :) Now have a Blackberry Bold 9700 and I much prefer it. If you use it for email a lot it is far better.

Edited to add - the battery life on the very latest Bold is really good too.

If you're going for an iPhone it has to be the 3GS. Camera and video are excellent. I've downloaded videos to watch on flights and the quality is well impressive.

It does need charging every couple of days but no biggy - until you forget.

I've been carrying mine around in my pocket without a case for 3 months now and now scratches yet.

Really impressed with my Blackberry 9700, however as a work phone it serves its purpose as an e-mail client well esp. with a BES server now in place. However, it has never encouraged me to use it for anything else. Sits dead in my work drawer until needed!

My Sony Ericcsson, C905 has been my first non Nokia since early 2000's, but was ONLY picked due to the 8mp camera, and whilst it has been a good camera, it has not produced shots good enough to be able to happily call it my Point and Shoot replacement.

So, in the same boat as you Scotty, can have an iPhone 3Gs with Voda in March 1st, so i think i will just do that, and make sure that I have enough charging devices in the office, car, and spare ones kicking about so that I am not ever caught short with the poor batter life.
A friend is meant to have one of the first Voda iPhones coming next week, but no doutb they will be delayed. Will be great to get a Voda phone that does not come with all their pish software ruining the phone!

i would have said front pocket not a problem, get a case and one of those screen protector films applied and jobs a good un. I think texting will be the only real thing, like everyone else, that you will need to get used to. i think the benefits of having one device for everything far outweighs the perceived weaknesses of the iPhone. e.g. 3mp camera, battery life, and expense over the 18 month contract.

I think you'll become converted like everyone else, and you'll have an app for everything!

Scotty,

Why not keep the 'phone you have and instead of getting an upgrade, get a discount on your bill ...

Do you actually need anything that you don't currently have?

I only change telephones when I have to, as they're all sh*t and it's a PITA learning the foibles of the new one each time.

Cheers,
Robin

Just used up my £5 PAYG that I put in six months ago, so I suppose that I will have to bite the bullet and top up again.

I always have the choice of the previous top phones as Clare, Ian and Luke upgrade every year. Bit pointless though as I always forget that they have a camera, and my old Siemens is smaller than most of them and voice activated, so I just say "Batman" and it puts me through to the man himself. (for some reason it does not like Robin.)

With robin on this .. Have a bberry bold which ran out of contract ..
Hassled o2 and got them down to 15 quid a month with more airtime and txt than I will ever use and bberry internet
That's 200 quid a yesr in my pocket for simply not having a new phone.
The bold I use does everything I need, calls, sms, mms, email and internet .. Battery life is a good few days ..
An iphone is slicker .. but woule leave me 300 quid a year out of pocket .. Nah .. Nice but not that nice ..
That's about 4000 miles worth of diesel .
