Maybe I should have said Lotus Esprit, or even Evora...
IMO the NSX is, and the 3200 Mazza also is, but the poor little Mitsubishi isn't.
I'd love an NSX

Hence why i picked the 4200

Focus ST estate, i3s and more pushbikes than strictly necessary.
....did i ever tell you about the Evora and VX220 i used to own?

The definition of a supercar is really difficult, and one I didn't want to impose parameters on. Its one of those things you can't define, but you know what it doesn't include.
IMO the only Jag that ticks the relevant supercar boxes is the XJ 220

Tough call, Mitsi 3000GT or a 4200
Not sure where I would stash my £20k. Not much "super" out there I would fancy, DB7 is a nice choice, the thrill of the "will it break" roulette would be half the fun... Ghibli would be a rarity, but I dont think do-able.
The problem is this; anything that we as petrolheads would class as an "i saw one of these today" or "woah check that out" is that way because they are rare. This rarity is oft a bi-product of being ruinous to run. I guess thats why 80s and 90s Porsches are so common (I see them daily down here, all sorts from the last 30years)

Supercar!
And it was touched with the hand of God. Well, Senna gave a few hints to the NSX development engineers at least

. Trouble is an Exige S would be just as quick in a straight line and would murder it in the corners.
The NSX R is still hugely appealing though, but way beyond 20k I suspect.

Too true Mark - but then we could always find a car that would do something similar, but would you call it a supercar? I could say, "veyron," and you'd be right to tell me a supercharged Atom would have it to 60 and murder it at KH.

That definately fits my description of a supercar
Would prefer this shape

(Unfortunately I haven't been able to convince the seller that a 24 year old car with only 4 services on record isn't worth the huge premium over a cheaper one)

Surely a Gransport for £25k would be the winner... I was seriously, seriously considering it (so much so I test drove and got trade in quotes on one) a few months ago.

Yup, I guess its not really about raw speed. After all a hot hatch is capable of getting you from a to b as fast as any sane person could wish. Supercars are all about drama, presence and looks. Actually that is one of the reasons I have always been smitten with the Exige - it just looks like a pocket sized supercar.
Incidentally the Veyron gets my vote as just about the ugliest supercar ever built. I even prefer the Gumpert Apollo!

Some of the 996's sufferded from engine failures but all happen before they reach 50k miles. The price point you are looking at means you should be safe enough there, but bear in mind they eat brakes at £500-800 a set, everything on them is 4 x the price of everybody else and it will be at best and 8 year old car. Suspension rubbers will be due a change, (not cheap as you can't just by the rubber bushes) exhaust will be getting rusty and have a tendancy to hole along the bottom seam, and they are expensive....... very

. Wheel bearings aren't to bad but the rears last about 50k so check these. And also check the rear arches for rust. Dirt collects behind the arch liner where the bumper joins the body. The main problem with these engines is RMS (rear main seal) failure. They revised the seal with the 997 but I heard of some that are still suffering from it. It can be an indication of misalignment in the crankshaft bearing tunnel but if that's the case then the engine won't make it past about 40k miles. Usually it's just a seal failure but it requires the gearbox to be dropped out and the flywheel removed. It costs £1200 to repair through Porsche but obviosly you can do it a lot cheaper. I did mine and changed the clutch at the same time for £800.
All that aside, find a good 'un and not much will beat it for less than 20k.
