Remember when you could pick up Mk2 Escort's (Not RS) for a case of beer swap, so it wasn't that long ago...(Or maybe I'm knocking on too?!! )

Escort Mk2 RS 1800, though - BDA loveliness... :love

Second mortgage these days...

sadly wasn't before my time, I had a couple of MK2 RS2000's and was around the RS concours scene with a mate, helped him with a concours winning rebuild and got to see a lot of the more exclusive RS's which were at the time beyond my budget but are now mortgage money as stated, never mind rare, when did you last see a Capri RS3100? or a 2600?

we collected a MK 1 beige mexico complete with original patina in the early '90's which was class but hardly inspiring but the same guy gave us his MK2 RS1800 to detail with all new bolts and the usual concours type fettling

it was quite a good spell, oily hands, bust knuckles and welding up rusty floor pans not to mention some shabby catty and spraying

things moved on too quickly and it all became very serious, modern metal and bling, though not for me, managed to roll mine, rebuilt it and had to sell to buy a house

oh I'm happy to be corrected but the really classic early cars, of which the MK1 RS1600 has to be the greatest, were AVO cars built in blighty, think the MK2 RS2000 was german built though
if evolution don't take care of it, redesign it

Nice choice mate.

When is your next time off, can you drag it all the way up here for some camping nonsense?!
Indeed - Muggins here has just got a hold of a Eaton M45 for beer money, plus associated pulleys / pipework, dummy TB and brackets...Several more bits to collect, and disaster (very) likely ahead, but feck it -

The car lives in Scotland, so camping is definitely on... :thumbsup

Letmeknow what plans you have...

Well there's the Aug "bank hol" campaganza that Jen's put together...weekend after this one coming.

And I am potentially being thrown a full pass for w/e of 18 Sept or therebouts, although this remains with Mission Control at present due to uncertainty over some holiday bookings Lisa is making.

Would either of these work?

Hmmm - I'm working for the bank holiday campaganza...And am in Brighton on the w/e of the 18th!

I'll put my thinking cap on - And might drop by for a coffee at some point, when I'm up in Scotland...I could bring the new car - Provided I haven't broken it, with my DIY supercharging experiment...

LOL.

Yep, keep us posted when you are next in the motherland, we'd love to see you. And theoretically, camping is feasible right up until late Oct if the weather is right. But you are in charge of negotiating my pass from Mrs Ford. Good luck with that ;-)

Definitely one of the best models of the best affordable sportscar on the planet. You will have lots of fun but as everyone else has said, it will need more power.

Best one I ever drove was a 250bhp supercharged Mk2.5 at Anglesey. The power delivery is really smooth so you lose nothing of the basic feel of the car (which you do with turbo conversions). But, you'll need an MP62 for 250bhp........

I have a hankering after another one myself.

250bhp Mk2.5? 8)

An MP62 would be nice...But I got the M45 for a pretty reasonable outlay, plus the guts of a Jackson Racing MP45 kit.

Lots still to collect, but going stand alone ECU, rather than wacking up the fuel pressure - Plan to run hotside and low boost initially, before fitting bigger injectors, and ultimately an intercooler and smaller nose pulley etc...

Properly mapped 1600cc cars, seem to make around 200bhp with that set up - Given mines is an 1800cc, I'd hope for 10-15bhp more; but would really be getting to the limit of what the M45 can do...Plus I'm into the realms of a new clutch / all the other stuff that fails when you ramp the power up 50% over standard...

Might take a while to do - It's going to be very much a budget-minded project...But if I can put together a reliable ~215bhp / RWD / ~1 tonne car, that handles and brakes well, for 50% the cost of a doggy S1 Elise needing £££ spent on it...Well...Could be amusing... :)

(I'll sell you it when I've finished?  )

Might be interested. :D

My VX is up for sale at the end of the season - now Mikie has a 2-11 there's no point in turning up.

But a supercharged MX-5 might be enough to enbarrass some of the other competition

Last time at KH there were a couple of MX5s out in therain with the drivers risking serious injury if their grins got any wider. Sideways sideways and some more sideways.

Sold a Mk1 last year we had as a spare car, would have kept it indefintely but i'm just too tall to get comfy in it.
