Nice place, and actually very dramatic from what I recall! We stayed across the loch near Skinidin, fantastic area.

I'd suggest you find somewhere just north of Glasgow to break the journey, assuming you are travelling at the weekend and no rush hours to contend with? If you are feeling flush, the Cameron House hotel is pretty special.

Oh, and the Google Maps route will be just fine for you to follow and enjoy some of our fine roads...there are different options for your way home if you are interested.

Under normal conditions, Skye is great for the Elise. I'd thought the roads had got a bit choppy after the shocking winter but I'm told a lot of resurfacing has been done, so I'd be really tempted to bring the Elise. If you get a crisp November morning, you will LOVE it. At the same time, we have also run across Skye in a Scoob and it was awesome too!

Yeah, I was thinking somewhere just North of Glasgow. I work over at Bishopton quite a lot and it normally takes me about 3 hours to get up there so would be a decent place to stop. Then set off first thing sunday morning for Skye

Yep, too late  . Booked the cottage above last weekend!

How long will you have available for your journey back home from Glendale?

We need to be back in Newcastle for Saturday night which means we will need to leave fairly early Saturday morning.

We want to do some driving while were up there. Probably not the ideal base as its right over on the West coast of Skye but we want to visit some distilleries and take in as much of the highlands as we can as the wife to be has never been further north than Edinburgh. (she likes Whiskey by the way, not just me being selfish and using our honeymoon as an excuse to go driving and sampleing

We were going to see if we could do a bit of a train trip round the Highlands but the ones we found are more expensive for 2 of us than a week in St Lucia. Seriously £1675 each for 3 days!

Any recommendations for day trips out from Skye round the highlands in the car would be great!

If she likes Whiskey, you'll be outa luck, as you only get Whisky Distilleries in Skye

A loop right round the north-east of Skye will be a grand day out, as will this - Applecross Inn for lunch :-) Although don't attempt the mountain pass from Lochcarron to Applecross if the weather is freezing, it's not treated and has some sheer drops!

And this might offer you some fun on the way home.

Only one distillery on Skye, Talisker, down the south west of the island, and there's not any others nearby.

Glendale is a lovely spot, plenty of walking to do around the area, and the Three Chimneys restaurant is just down the road.
Green Subaru Impreza Turbo, a 'classic'.

Silver Jeep Cherokee 2.5 TD, on SORN spec...

Black Disco 3, black van man spec...

Well worth a visit :thumbsup
Other recommendations:
Oban - probably one of the nearest to Skye and easiest if your going up/down the West coast
Dalwhinnie - near Aviemore. The highest in Scotland and very friendly
The Glenlivet - Maybe a bit out your way in Speyside, but very knowledgeable tour guide
Glenkinchie - worth a visit if your passing Edinburgh (if only for the model distillery)
Anywhere on Islay - again out your way, but very welcoming and generous with the nips.

:cheers

planning on a couple of visits there. It's expensive but it is the honeymoon so I'll make an exception from my usually tight disposition. Not as if there's much else to spend money on round there.
Even the nearest pub is 8 miles away!

Also Skye Silver just over the water behind Dunvegan / Skinidin. Again be prepared to be relieved of a lot of cash. But worth it.

Oh, and get this book. Great wee guide. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Skye-Kintail-Wa ... 1841830070

We did several of the walks from there during a trip in October-time-ish. None were that high level, lots were coastal and they were FAB.

In fact, I've just found the wee cottage we stayed in. Stumbling distance from 3 Chimneys
