I think the heat in the footwell might be unbearable in a caterham in france in august Robin.

Theres ALOT of heat comes through from the engine compartment. I dont know if it can be sealed up better top stop that

In a non-bonkers power k-series the footwell heat for the driver is tolerable, even on the Continent in August. Been there, done it, got the sweaty t-shirt. Obviously it will never be as comfortable temp as an Elise - there is no point comparing them as road cars, the Elise wins. Some high power Duratec owners (exhaust manifold on o/s) add insulation to the pedal box.

Robin - if I forget when next at my desktop, give me a PM/email nudge to remind me to send you a spreadsheet an owner created years ago which gives the max wheel speeds for various gearbox/diff/tyre/engine combos. Yes, it will be around 3800rpm.

Paul - why such a binary approach to 7 condition? It is possible to have a car that sits in the middle ground  This car looks (on paper) to fit Jim's brief well - apart from the price being a bit steep and the wheels not being 13".

I was thinking of a fat boy SV myself - I'm not too bothered about on track performance - it's going to be different to the Elises I have driven, and I cannot imagine that it will be slower than any of them?

Not sure if the carpeted luxo-barge SV has better insulation in the footwell?

Cheers,
Robin

Jim, I met the previous owner of the R300 at KH last week. He now has the CR which used to belong to Jon.

Good luck with the car and get the price down.

I don't know driving in another way which isn't risky. Each one has to improve himself. Each driver has its limit. My limit is a little bit further than other's.

No more carpet than an S3 Roadsport luxo-non-barge, and no different insulation (ie. absent). A little more width/space in the engine bay for heat to escape but probably no real-world difference for same engine specs.

Are you bigger than me? Can't remember. You'd find Tillet seats provided more knee room (I cannot drive an S-type equipped S3 unless it has lowered floors) and very comfy... But we're drifting off Jim's topic.

Who was the owner, Mass? How long had he owned the car, do you know?

Don't know much about him. Just met on the track and started chatting. He told me he has done a few trackdays so I think the R300 would have been tracked at one point (no harm done). No idea how long he owned it.

Jim - I've already replied to you PM and posted on J7s so no need to spraff on about it again here :D

Ref the gearbox - I'd say the 6spd is better suited to the K series mill, as 4th gear on the 5spd is the same a 6th on the errr.. 6spd

Don't worry about fitting - you're not as fat as me <BG>

Oh - and I'd say avoid the SV - you'll just flop about and lose most of the enjoyment of a 7 - they're meant to fit like a glove...

...that's why I kept the tub of vaseline in the snot....

Fitted like a very very very tight surgical glove (that was perhaps one finger too small)
Funnily enough, getting out was easier. The "pop" when my hips left the seat let me know I had done it :blackeye

Because what a 7 is wanted for is the most important question and i i want to see which end of the spectrum he wants
Landrover 90 = Muddy shed spec
Fiat panda = Couldn't care less spec
Landrover ?? = Muddy shrek spec
Unimog 404S = Very slow silly offroader spec
Kubota F1900 = Snowplough spec

Indeed, agree 100%

I'd read your post as meaning there were only 2 choices of purchase and no spectrum: track slag scruff bucket or G.J.O.B. bling chariot. So probably wires crossed in me putting that question to you
