Don't get me wrong here.. I'm all for the built for being used ethos. However, I think my petrol headed bretheren would agree that they're for being used on B-roads... like driving to Oban for a saturday blast... not for being choked in the city centre traffic or dodging trolleys at tesco :P

Not sure that title still stands - but one went at auction in, I think, '87 (late '80s anyway) for £10 million. Pounds, not dollars.

Anybody care to calculate that in today's money!?

In an ideal world, of course. But if it's the school run or sitting never getting used, I know which one I respect.

Nick has a scary amount of cars - races a good percentage and lets others race those he doesn't. His F40 has one of the highest recorded milages of any made.

The 250GTO in question is regularly raced and does almost every classic festival going. He's shared it with the likes of Moss, Bell and a raft of younger racers. Not what you'd call precious about it.

He also raced at Le Mans several times and in the late 70's/early 80's, ended up a pretty reasonable 'gentleman' racer. Had a seat with the works Porsche team at Le Mans in 83 or 84 when they owned the place with the 956.

One of the best coffee table car books available is Into the Red - track tests of a variety of his cars (written by Mark Hales, with personal insights into the cars by Nick) It even comes with a CD of the engines at full bore!

Agree entirely. Respect is one thing, but what you would prefer to watch on a Brundle DvD or on 5th Gear is different :)

Personally I love the 5th moments when they pit two cars back to back on the track with Tiff & JJ ragging them round the track after each other.

They suffer bad producers though so expect to see the Stig on it as they have copied everything else and it would be an easy win due to the anonymity of the man in white.

There was a guy on 5th Gear (I think) recently who had a huge garage full of supercars. He was a total cock tho as there were some he hadn't even driven such as a Carrera GT. He said he sometimes bought them just because they looked good in his garage.

Strangely Elaine changed channels during this, as she didn't want to see her nice telly ruined by my shoe going through it!

Twat

(on the flipside, one imagines a reasonable percentage of hypercar owners are like this, so I guess we need to remember that if not for them, these cars wouldn't be made........)
