The brakes on all these Beemers and Mercs won't last 10 mins, nevermind FF! You need something light with small wheels
Greg, is that a R34 GTS? :damnfunny

like JJ's shout! Although if hes done the Vanos on one, f*** knows what FF would do to it

With a Golf GT TDi he's not going to want a GTI now is he  :damnfunny

As for the Fiat - PLEASE bring that on frolic! It could be a bit like the phantom breakdown cars in top gear (or the USA bike with Bruce springsteen playing in Vietnam).

Golding wouldnt take the piss...........honest

Although, as we say on FF, its a bit "James Knight" :thumbsup

If it were me I would spend £8k on an early Boxster and £1k on changing parts like brakes, fluid and tyres to in the hope of making it last the trip.

Some quality suggestions 8) .
As has been said Merc/Bimmer looks tasty but useless brakes. Is this true for the Z3 Coupe?

Love a TVR but not sure it's a frolic car  .

Of the Japanese stuff the Skyline would be nice 8)

I quite like the look of the V6 Clio (does it have AC) and actually the other day I was looking at R26.Rs (stilll 18k :( ). Oh god I've just read that back   I've only been here 3 months and I'm already turning French

I'm sure I found an S2 Elise with AC from a dealer down south the other day on at 12,995 or something.

Boxster S it is. Get it bought  :thumbsup

Megan Sport?

Or smaller brother?

Love this one and a better price - strip it out for FF then put back together and sell again afterwards

Agree with the boxster suggestion, lots around at good prices

Having been there with a heavy car, it's not cheap and you have to think about carrying tyres etc. I would stick to lightweight, Lotus or VX (to show the Lotus boys that they are not the poorer cousin  ).

And like Dave said Gem may actually enjoy it in the summer. :thumbsup

I'm not convinced an R8 is the right car to take either..

What a cracking thread - for a "what car" thread at least ;-)

Like Andy's observation - look at the metal for £10k.

I think that Beemer M-coupe jumps out at me.

Also like JJ logic re: keep a bit back to shore up the consumables in advance. Canny, that.

The Fiat - hilarious but surely bog slow on the circuits in relative terms.

Glad to see everyone steered you away from the DC5, Ed, simply by subliminally not mentioning it :-)

Tell you what...if you think the general identity of the successful mule is in this thread, we could set up a Vote for all the ones listed and have some fun to see if we can guess you right...kinda Mr and Mrs with cars!!!

Loving my Clio 197, can be had for as little as 7K these days, brakes are astonashingly good, nice and peppy too with the 2ltr engine.

Would get my vote :thumbsup

spoke to Walshy about some other stuff, but asked for his feedback.

Mx5 - one of his instructors has one, nothign has failed, but he gets stick every day he arrives in it.

Boxster - 30k miles of him driving it and no major failures.

Lightweight is key at Ledenon.

Rear V6 over the axles, Clio that looks like its on steriods, could be fun.

Then again, Tuscan S :thumbsup :blackeye

Peter - we've had an R8 on this trip before - for about 1 hour on each track - still great for cooling down in :thumbsup

Air con! You are such a weiner man. Forget the aircon and buy something light with a bike engine, the air smashing off your face will make you forget all about the hangover.

Something a bit different?

Would be great fun on track!

No point being sensible is there?

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2406651.htm

Is a £9k monaro a better idea or worse?

Lots of space power and pace, maybe not much badge though!

V6 is not fun......it would basically consist of turn in....spin...F*ck all you can do about it.

Repeat for every corner on the track ;)

Soundtrack with a decent exhaust is amazing and I always felt the gear change was really positive and engaging however.

Brakes are crud and massivly expensive to replace on the downside.

More an occasion car and can take a while to sell on as well.

My missus HATED driving mine too.
