Interesting. I wonder how much wind noise contributes to the total noise level?
My Elise (I believe) is fitted with the standard exhaust, but when I was out on a run on Sunday morning it was a bit windier than usual, and for the first time since buying the car I found myself thinking "jeez, wish it was a just a wee bit quieter in here!".
I suppose I could've put the roof back on!

The back to back tests I've done in Elaine's car indicate similar levels with the roof off, but in mine, it's louder with the roof off (but quieter than Elaine's with it on - ironic, given the cars in question). Prolonged exposure will put your hearing at risk at the levels I've measured. Cant' say what a standard car is like
Wasn't any sort of anorakish scientific thing, I just have a phone app which I've had the chance to test alongside a proper dB meter and it's not miles off. Passes the time in her pax seat and makes the point to her about earplugs

The sound proofing is not only confined to carpets and engine noise insulation, but also the tub has had foam injected to reduce the amount of noise transmitted from tyre roar and flicked road debris. I found mine was really quiet with the touring pack when I decimated a rabbit on stirling services roundabout. Not a lot of NVH from it.
